Obituary of Lawrence Faria

Lawrence E. Faria, a retired Lieutenant in the Burlington Fire Dept. and a resident of Burlington for 54 years, passed away unexpectedly while vacationing in Clearwater Florida, on Sunday, January 22, 2006. He was 76 years old. Mr. Faria was born in Boston. He was the son of the late Joseph and Eleanor Faria. He was raised in educated in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School. Mr. Faria served his country in the United States Army for 4 years during the Korean War. He achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class. Mr. Faria and his wife Toni settled in Burlington in 1952 where they raised there six children. Mr. Faria was a Lieutenant and Safety Officer for the Burlington Fire Department for 20 years. He taught at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy and in 1975 published a book on “Protective Breathing Apparatus”. After retiring from the Burlington Fire Department, he continued to teach at the Fire Academy. Mr. Faria truly enjoyed his retirement years. He was an active man with many interests. Some of interests included; ham radio, tropical fish, playing the guitar and bowling. He enjoyed working out at the health club. Mr. Faria’s family was very important to him and he treasured the many special times he spent with his family. He is described by his family as a “devoted and loving husband and the Greatest Dad and Grandpa.” Mr. Faria is the loving husband of Antoinette “Toni” (DeCesare). Loving father of Lawrence E. Jr. & his wife Karen of Kingston, NH, Leonard & his wife Mary of Barnstead, NH, Elizabeth & her husband Wayne Patterson of Hollis Center, ME, Stephen & his wife Deirdre of Newbury, Michelle Faria of Sterling, and Celeste & her husband David Roemer of Voorhees, NJ. Brother of Joseph of Burlington. Also survived by 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday, January 27 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy’s Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery.
