Obituary of James Nelson

James D. Nelson, a resident of Burlington for 52 years, passed away at his home on Friday morning, September 29, 2006. He was 81 years old. Jim was born, raised and educated in Medford. He was the son of the late Everett and Mary Nelson. Jim was a veteran of World War II serving his country in the United States Navy. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal with 10 stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 Bronze stars, and the Good Conduct Medal. Jim was employed for over 30 years at RCA in Burlington. Jim was a member of the American Legion in Burlington. He was a people person who enjoyed the many friendships he had made throughout the years in the town of Burlington. Jim’s life was all about his family. He was a hardworking man whose life was dedicated to providing for his wife and seven children. He enjoyed just being at home and spending time with his family whether it be watching a football game together, having a family cookout or just sitting around and talking. Jim will be deeply missed by his wife, his children, grandchildren and his many friends. Jim is the beloved husband of Vera Ann (Rufrano). He is the loving father of David Nelson of Billerica, Linda Newcomb of Acton, Dennis Nelson of Burlington, Diane Nelson of Burlington, James D. Nelson Jr. of Burlington, Steven Nelson of Billerica, and Laurie Sweeney of Burlington. He is the brother of the late Barbara Forgione, Marie Battistello, and Steven Nelson. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, October 2 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
