Obituary of George L Judge

George L. Judge Jr. was one of those special people of Burlington that truly left a lasting positive impact on the community. He cared about Burlington and did his best to improve the town’s infrastructure and safety. George was also a man devoted to his family. It gave George great solace to have his family at his bedside as he passed peacefully on Thursday night, October 26, 2017. George was born in Waltham, the son of George and Alice Judge. He grew up in Waltham and was a 1953 graduate of Saint Mary’s High School, in Waltham. He went to Boston College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1957. He enlisted in the Army immediately after graduating from college. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War serving his country from 1957 to 1959. George was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the Sharpshooter Rifleman’s Badge. He returned from the military and took advantage of the GI Bill to earn his Master’s at Boston College. George was proud to be a “Double Eagle” and was a faithful Boston College Supporter. He was thrilled to have his daughter, Susan, go to Nursing School at Boston College and graduate in 1987, especially since it was during the Doug Flutie Era of BC Football. George married Anne Marie McCarty on October 31, 1959, and settled they in Burlington where they raised their three children, Michael, Christopher and Susan. George was not a man who could sit idle. He quickly became active in the community. He was an elected Town Meeting Member, Planning Board member, and Board of Selectmen. During those years he was deeply involved in building the town’s Reservoir and water treatment plant and bring to Burlington a world class hospital in the Lahey Clinic and the campus of Sun Microsystems. He also was a member of the town’s Personnel Board. He loved Burlington and wanted the best for its residents. George was a 25-year employee of Polaroid Corporation. After retiring from Polaroid, he went to work at Harvard Medical School and later became President of the North Suburban Chamber of Commerce. In the early 90s, he co-owned TJ’s Ice Cream in the center of town with his good friend and neighbor, Bob Tisdale. As a second job to help put his children through college, he worked as a manager of an apartment complex. He was an avid golfer. George, his golf buddies, and friends ran the Burlington Golf Classic for over 20 years. During those years, there often waiting lists of those wanting to play in the fun and coveted event. George was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as the Heartbeat passing until his passing. George was recognized as Burlington’s Citizen of the Year in the 1980’s. Later in life, George and Anne Marie tried living in New Hampshire and Florida, but eventually returned home to the place he loved, Burlington. George was the beloved husband of Anne Marie (McCarty) Judge. He was the loving father of Michael Judge and his wife Judith of Burlington, Christopher Judge and his wife Darlene of Chelmsford, and Susan Waisgerber and her husband Stephen of Marshfield. He was the eldest brother of Charles Judge of Silver Springs, MD, Martha Kea of Bourne, and Mary Alice Grzyb of Woburn. George, “Bubba”, adored his seven grandchildren; Michael Judge, Jr., Lynn Judge, Jeffrey Judge, Sarah Judge, Christopher Judge, Joseph Waisgerber and Curtis Waisgerber. George’s family would like to thank their wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends for their unwavering support during this difficult time. They would also like to thank the outstanding staff of the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for the exceptional care and comfort they provided George and the family. Funeral from the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt., 128/95 Woburn side) on Monday, Oct. 30 at 10 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 11 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday 4-7 p.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
