Obituary of Grace Madden

Grace A. Madden, passed away after a short battle with cancer on Monday morning, July 16, 2007. She was 63 years old. Grace was born in Somerville, the daughter of the late Howard and Mary Leah Martel. She grew up and was educated in Somerville. In September of 1963, she married Thomas W. Madden and they began their life together. Over the years she had lived in Somerville, Derry, NH, Everett and most recently, Malden. She worked for over 10 years as a Manager and Supervisor at the Constitution Inn of the Greater Boston YMCA in Charlestown. Grace had a number of interests. She loved to cook. She enjoyed caring for her plants. She loved music, especially the oldies. Grace enjoyed going to flea markets in search of treasures and bargains. She also had a unique hobby of collecting elephant trinkets and statues. Her house was filled with elephants of all sizes. Family was the most important part of Grace’s life. She was the proud mother of 5 and was fortunate to share in their interests, experiences, and even work. She was blessed to have 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She enjoyed her role as the eldest daughter in the family and delighted when all her family was together. Grace was the beloved wife of 43 years of Thomas W. Madden. Loving mother of Thomas Madden, Jr. of Everett, Brenda Hatch of Revere, Douglas Madden of Malden, Sherry Madden of Malden, and Vicky Cabrera of Cambridge. Grandmother of T.C., Douglas, & Amanda Madden, Edward & Jennifer Hatch, and Ryan Collins. Great grandmother of Justin. Daughter of the late Howard & Mary Leah Martell. Sister of Howard J. Martell, Jr. of Woburn, M. Diane Ciampa of Stoneham, Elaine Fowler of Derry, NH, Brian Martell of Derry, NH, Timmy Martell of N. Andover, and the late Raymond Martell. Funeral services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, July 19 at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment will be private. Memorials in Grace’s name may be made to the Constitution Inn of the Greater Boston, YMCA, 150 Second Ave, Charlestown, MA, 02129.
