Obituary of Margaret Downey

Margaret V. Downey, a 15 year resident of Burlington, passed away at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading on Saturday night, September 30, 2006. She was 90 years old. Mrs. Downey was born, raised, and educated in Somerville. She is the daughter of the late James and Lucy Townsend. She was a housewife, who made a loving home filled with sweet aromas and wonderful memories for her husbands, children, and grandchildren. She enjoyed baking, especially, pies. She liked to knit. You were fortunate to receive a gift of one of her special hand made afghan or baby sweater sets. She enjoyed traveling around the United States and some of Europe. She was an avid reader, reading at least two books a week. She loved playing cards and her grandchildren loved the chance to challenge her in a game of cards. She also enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends. Mrs. Downey is the beloved wife of the late Robert Downey and Everett Cress. She is the loving mother of Sally Davis of Burlington and James Cress of Stoneham. She is the proud grandmother of Bryon Davis, Paul Davis, Sharleen Davis-Ruiz, Michelle Cress, and James Cress. She is also survived by 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Edward V. Sulivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, October 4 at 11 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 pm Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington Memorials in Margaret’s name may be made to Minuteman Senior Services, 24 Third Ave, Burlington, MA 01803.
