Mildred L. (Lagorio) Modica, a resident of Burlington for 57 years, passed away the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading on Friday morning, Sept. 28, 2007. The wife of the late Carmelo “Jim” Modica, who passed away in 2005, she was 84 years old. Mildred was born in Boston. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Ella Lagorio. She was raised and educated in Charlestown. As a child she loved to play basketball. Mildred and her late husband Jim settled in Burlington where they raised their 4 children. Mildred was employed at Polaroid and Marshall’s Distribution Center. She enjoyed playing bingo and going “out to Lunch Bunch”. She had traveled with her husband cross-country by car. Mildred’s life was all about her family. She enjoyed going to school functions for both her children and in later years her grandchildren. She was a good cook and enjoyed cooking for her family and always looked forward to family events. She was a wonderful Nana to her grandchildren. Mildred was blessed to have a life that spanned 84 years as a devoted wife, mother, sister, and nana. Mildred is the beloved wife of the late Carmelo “Jim”. She is the loving mother of Stephen & his wife Maureen of Burlington, Susan & her husband Richard Gallant of Billerica, Ellen Boyle of RI and the late James Modica. She is the sister of Eunice Corbett of Burlington and the late Frank Lagorio and Rosaline Geagan. Grandmother of Dr. Jennifer Boyle, Julie Boyle, Jacqueline, Nicholas & Douglas Gallant. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, October 1 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
