Obituary of Walter Hayes
Walter M. Hayes, a resident of Burlington for the past 40 years, passed away at the Sunbridge Care & Rehabilitation Center in North Reading after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, March 1, 2008. The husband of the late Arlene (Pearson), he was 71 years old.
Walter was born in his family home in Medford. He was the son of the late Rexford and Ruth Hayes. He was raised and educated in West Medford. After marrying his wife Arlene they lived for a brief period in Somerville and Medford before settling in Burlington where they raised their three daughters. Walter had a successful career for over 35 years as a Supervisor for the Telephone Company. He was the proud owner of his own telecommunications company for eight years called ComServe.
Walter had a very full and active life. He was an avid Golfer and Bowler. He was a member of the Lexington Elks. Walter had a fondness for animals and loved his dog “Twizzle”. He always looked forward to his vacations. He visited all over the world by car, plane, and cruise ship. He especially looked forward to the yearly family vacation to Lake George with all his family. He loved being on the lake with his daughters and grandchildren and the time spent on the golf course with his son in laws. His life centered around his three daughters and his 7 grandchildren. He took great pride in being a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be lovingly remembered.
Walter is the beloved husband of the late Arlene (Pearson). He is the loving father of Lisa & her husband Jonathan MacLean of Marion, Lynn & her husband Chris Lynch of North Reading, and Leigh & her husband Bill Kral of Derry, NH. He is the brother of the late Ruth Wellman, Rexford and Donald Hayes. He is the grandfather of Victoria & Kathryn MacLean, Brian & Stephen Lynch, Michael, Tommy & Ashley Kral. He is also survived by his beloved dog “Twizzle”. Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, March 5 at 11:00 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
