Obituary of Mary Margaret Jones

Margaret Mary (McHugh) Jones, 82, of Durham, N.C, former longtime resident of Burlington, Mass., wife of the late Ernest W. Jones of Burlington, died January 19, 2008 in Durham N.C. Mary was born Oct. 17, 1925, in Watertown, Mass., daughter of the late Thomas F. McHugh and Anna McGrory. She graduated from Watertown High School and often worked as a home typist. Following her husband's death, she moved to the Greenfield, Mass area in 1987. Mary was a devoted mother, she was a longtime animal lover and was considered a second mother to many of her sons' friends and companions. She is survived by her two sons, Ernest W. Jones Jr. and his wife Diana (Schaefer) Jones of Sheffield, Vt. and Stephen Douglas Jones and his wife Lyn Tatta Jones of Durham, N.C. She is also survived by her brothers, Paul McHugh of Florida, and John McHugh of Waltham, a stepdaughter, Sharlene Jobst , a stepson, Louis Tatta of Greenfield, Mass; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest W. Jones, brothers and sisters Thomas McHugh, Roberta (McHugh) Podgurski , Edward McHugh, Anna McHugh and her faithful longtime companion, Phil Simmons. A Memorial Mass will be held June 14, 2008, 10 a.m. at Saint Malachy’s Chapel, 99 Bedford St., Burlington, Mass. with Rev. Leonard F. O'Malley officiating. Graveside committal will follow at the West View Cemetery; 520 Bedford St., Lexington, Mass. Memorials in Mary’s name may be made to any local food bank or animal shelter.
