Obituary of Irene Proulx

Irene Louise Proulx, leaves a legacy of family. Irene passed away after a short illness at the Woodbriar of Wilmington Rehabilitation Center in Wilmington on Friday morning, June 6, 2008. She was 98 years old. She was born in Cambridge, the daughter of Canadian immigrants, the late Eugene and Marie Boissoneau. She grew up and was educated in Belmont. Irene had resided in Arlington for over 60 years. She had spent the last 8 years living in Woburn. Irene had a number of interests and activities. She had a daily routine that lasted 25 years where she would attend daily Mass at St. James Church in Arlington, then go get a bite to eat with her girlfriends, and then serve meals at the Senior Center in Arlington. She loved to shop in Boston and spend Saturday mornings shopping in Haymarket Square. She loved to play bingo and cards. Poker and Skat were her favorite card games. She enjoyed taking bus trips to Foxwood’s Resort with her late son Arthur. She enjoyed sewing. She was a great baker and she was known for her Chocolate Nut Squares and coffee cake. Irene greatest accomplishment in her life was her family. She was a loving mother of 5, grandmother of 22, great grandmother of 34, and a great great grandmother. She took great pride in being the matriarch of such a large family and was fortunate to have such a long and healthy life to fully appreciate all her blessings. She set a wonderful example of motherhood, compassion, family and giving of oneself unselfishly. She will be lovingly remembered by all those who knew her. Irene was the beloved wife of the late Philip Proulx. She was the loving mother of Janet Pierce & her husband Warren of Burlington, Marie Cullen of Woburn, the late Arthur, Francis, & Donald Proulx and mother-in-law of Margaret “Peggy” Proulx of Burlington, Rose Proulx of Tewksbury, Lima “Bonnie” Proulx of Rochester, NH, and the late Lenny Cullen. She was also survived by 22 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, June 9 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7 p.m. Interment in Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge.
