Obituary of Edith Cavicchi

Edith “Edie” J. (Kmet) Cavicchi, a resident of Burlington for 54 years, passed away at her home on Monday morning, August 4, 2008. The wife of Edmund J. Cavicchi for 62 years, she was 81 years old. Edie was born in Jamaica Plain, the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Kmet. She was raised and educated in Somerville. During World War II, in support of the war effort, she worked at Hood Rubber. She was a graduate of Fisher Junior College in Boston. Edie worked as a sales clerk at Sears at the Burlington Mall for over 20 years. Edie was an energetic and outgoing woman. She was an active member of the Burlington Council on Aging. She was a fixture at the Center whether it was helping out fundraising, as well as participating in the many activities and socials. Edie also volunteered her time with the Meals on Wheels Program and at the Fernald School in Waltham. Edie loved to dance. She was a regular at the Concerts on the Common and could be seen dancing to the many different groups that performed there. Edie also enjoyed going to Foxwood’s with the senior citizens. She had a great sense of humor and was well known for her jokes and stories. Edie enjoyed traveling with her girlfriends. They had visited such places as Canada, Italy, France, Ireland, Hawaii, California, Florida and Alaska. Edie’s energy, spirit and enthusiasm for life will be missed by her husband, her children and their families and her many friends in the town. Edie is the beloved wife of Edmund J. She is the loving mother of Janice Buckley of Tewksbury, Edmund “Buddy” Cavicchi of Whitefield, NH, Pam O’Brien of Hampton, NH, Ken Cavicchi of Townsend, and Robert Cavicchi of Burlington. She is the sister of the late Frederick LaPlante. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, Aug. 7 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., BURLINGTON at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, BURLINGTON.
