Obituary of Donald Gavel

Donald J. Gavel, a retired manager at Polaroid, passed away after a very short illness at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading, the husband of 47 years Dorothy L. (Dudley) he was 69 years old. Don was born in Somerville. He was the son of the late Clarence and Edith Gavel. He was raised and educated in Arlington. He was a graduate of Arlington High School. Don served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era where he was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal. Don worked for Polaroid in Waltham for 38 years in the Quality Control Department. After his retirement, he worked at the Burlington Mall’s security department. He enjoyed the work, coworkers, and the many shoppers he would assist. Don led a full and active life. He enjoyed going to the horse races in Rockingham where he made many long-lasting friendships. His hobbies included playing cards and horseshoes, but what brought him the most joy was spending time with his family and friends. His home, backyard, and pool were often the center of family and neighborhood gatherings. He will be lovingly remembered for his warmth, kindness, and devotion to his family. Donald was the beloved husband of Dorothy L. (Dudley). He was the loving father of Donna Coe & her husband Samuel of Burlington, Denise Iafolla & her husband Michael of PA, and the late Donald J. Jr. He was the brother the late David and Gordon Gavel. Half brother of Helen, Irene, and Marguerite Gavel. He was the proud grandfather of Amanda Morrison & her husband Jonathan, Caroline & Christopher Coe all of Burlington, Katie, Cole & Abbey Iafolla of PA and great grandfather of Riley Morrison. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, Dec. 29 at 12 Noon. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
