Obituary

Anne D. (deBettencourt) Clougherty passed away after a long illness at the Glen Ridge Nursing Care Facility in Malden on Saturday morning, May 27, 2006. She was 76 years old. Anne was born and raised in Oak Bluffs on the island of Martha's Vineyard. She is the daughter of the late William and Mary deBettencourt. While she was attending college, she met her Joseph. They married and eventually settled in Burlington in 1955. Anne was a very active parishioner at Saint Margaret's Church. She taught religious education for years. She especially enjoyed working with the children preparing to receive their First Communion. He loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens.


Anne is the loving wife of the late Joseph Clougherty, who passed away in February of 2003. She is the loving mother of Anne Marie of Cambridge. Sister of Thomas deBettencourt of CA, Rosemary Garvey of CA, John deBettencourt of CA, William "Bink" deBettencourt of Martha's Vineyard, Eileen Tierney of CT, Maureen Harabalja of Natick, Theresa Veinotte of FL, Katie deBettencourt of VT, and the late Gerard deBettencourt. Dear friend of Barbara & Roger Gamache of Burlington. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.


A visiting hour will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, May 31 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret's Church at Noon. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials in Anne's name may be made to the St. Margaret's Building Fund, 111 Winn St., Burlington, MA 01803.
