Obituary of Laura Cooper

Laura E. Cooper, Burlington Council on Aging Volunteer of the Year for 2005, passed away suddenly on Tuesday morning, February 21, 2005. She was 84 years old. Mrs. Cooper was born in Cambridge, the daughter of the late Clifford and Grace Adams. She worked as an Administrator and Legal Secretary for most of her working career. In her retirement years, Mrs. Cooper used her knowledge and experience to help seniors as a councilor for SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elderly). As a Shine Counselor, Mrs. Cooper was able to assist and inform Burlington residents of their rights under the Medicare and guide residents to various agencies when necessary. Her advocacy helped numerous residents acquire and maintain much needed health benefits. She also volunteered her time at the front desk of the Council on Aging. She was a Past President of the Burlington Senior Citizens Organization. In 2005, Mrs. Cooper was named Volunteer of the Year at the Burlington Council on Aging. Mrs. Cooper is the beloved wife of the late Philip P. Cooper. She is the loving mother of Roger Cooper & his wife Marcia of Wakefield and Craig “Coop” Cooper of Burlington. She is the sister of the late Clifford Adams, Jr. and Jessie Saben. She is the grandmother of Douglas Cooper & his wife Jennifer of Billerica, Matthew Cooper of Wakefield, Daniel Cooper of Wakefield, Adam Cooper & his wife Pennee of Newport News, VA, Gavin Cooper of Burlington, Josie & Jennifer Cooper of Alameda, CA. She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at the Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Bedford St., Burlington on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON, on Friday from 4-8 p.m. Memorials in Laura’s name may be made to the Burlington Council on Aging, 61 Center Street, Burlington, MA 01803.
