Obituary of Blanche K. Berger

Blanche K. (Krell) Berger entered into rest unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon, July 22, 2006. The wife of the late Alfred S. Berger, she was 88 years old. Mrs. Berger was born, raised and educated in Detroit, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Morris and Bessie Krell. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music from the University of Miami. Mrs. Berger moved to New York in 1942 where she and her husband raised their family and she began her career as a professional Harpist. She had a wonderful career. She played for the NBC Symphony Orchestra. She also played for early television and was the Harpist on the “Firestone Hour”. She played Harp for the Ray Block Orchestra, which supported such television legends as Jackie Gleason, Milton Berle, and Jimmy Durante. Mrs. Berger had an ear for music and could sit down and play any song ranging from Classical Music to Irish Music! She moved to Boston in 1985 to be closer to her family where she enjoyed many special times with her children, grandchildren, and most recently her great grandson. She also become a member of the Woburn City Band where she enjoyed playing as their only Harpist at many of their events including the St. Patricks Day Celebration. Mrs. Berger is the wife of the late Alfred S. Berger. She is the loving mother of Anne Berger Small of Woburn & her late husband William Gerald Small, Carolyn & her husband Henry Webb of New York, and Dr. Joseph Berger of Thomasville, GA. She is the sister of Marilyn Rollinger of Bloomfield Hills, MI, and the late Raymond Krell and Harriett Steinhardt. She is the grandmother of Elisabetta Daneu Long & her husband Jeffrey Long of Woburn, Antonio Daneu of Woburn, Sarah Berger, Emily Berger both of Thomasville, GA. She is the great grandmother of Alessandro Long. Funeral Services were held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON on Monday, July 24 at 9:00 a.m. Graveside Services were held immediately following at King David Cemetery in New York.
