Obituary of John McDonough

John J. “Jake” McDonough, passed away at his home, with his family by his side, on Tuesday evening, August 16, 2011. The beloved husband of Veronica (Walsh) he was 63 years old. Jake was born and raised in Cambridge. He was the son of the late John and Margaret McDonough. He was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School. He went on to have a successful career for over 40 years at Polaroid in Waltham as a Computer Control Operator. Jake was a handy craftsman. He enjoyed carpentry and masonry. He remodeled his entire home and also built a stone wall in back of his home. He enjoyed landscaping his back yard, planting trees and flowers. He enjoyed traveling and had visited his wife’s family in Ireland on a number of occasions. Jake and his wife Veronica had traveled cross country on two occasions and had visited every state in the United States with the exception of Alaska and California. Jake’s life was all about family – not himself. His daughter Kerry has being serving in the United States Air Force for 15 years and has been deployed a number of times. John would bake cookies and put together care pages and send them weekly to Kerry and her friends. He would never miss a week. His two grandchildren were the center of his life. He enjoyed taking trips to San Antonio to visit his granddaughter Keira and was fortunate to have his grandson Declan living close by in New Hampshire. Jake was the beloved husband of Veronica (Walsh). Loving father of John P. McDonough & his wife Maryann Kabarsky of Nashua, NH, Technical Sgt. Kerry McDonough stationed in San Antonio, TX, and Maura McDonough of Burlington. Brother of Ann Manzelli of Cambridge and Eileen McDonough of Merrimac. Beloved grampy of Keira and Declan McDonough. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Sat. Aug. 20 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy Church, Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 p.m. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers memorials in Jake’s name may be made to St. Malachy’s Building Fund, 99 Bedford St., Burlington, MA 01803 or S.M.A. Fathers, 337 Common St., Dedham, MA 02026.
