Obituary of Charles A Giangreco

Charles A. Giangreco passed away after an unexpected illness at his home surrounded by his family on Friday morning, December 28, 2018.  He was 72 years old. Charles or as all his friends knew him, “Charlie” was born in Medford the son of Helen and Dr. Anthony Giangreco.  The family lived in East Boston for his first years and then settled in Burlington.  Other than his years in the Air Force, he lived primarily in their childhood home in Burlington.  Charlie was a graduate of St. John’s Prep Class of 1965.  He enlisted in the Air Force and served for over 4 years during the Vietnam Era.  He held the rank of Sergeant and was a missile guidance specialist.  He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and the Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon.

After finishing his military service, Charlie went to work in the computer industry.  His titles ranged from Course Developer and Technical Consultant to Vice President of Engineering at various companies throughout his career.  After years in the computer industry and with his love of carpentry, Charlie started his own venture - CAG Property Services.  His retirement and “fun job” was as an usher at TD Garden.  He worked the Celtics & Bruins games, concerts, and any another event held at the Garden.  It was the most fun.  The staff were a great group of people and he truly enjoyed the camaraderie.  He enjoyed all the sporting events and concerts (some more than others!).  After 15 years at the Garden, Charlie became quite connected.  Whenever he was out and about, he always seemed to come across someone he knew whether a coworker, friend, season ticket holder, family of his daughters’ friends, and so forth that always amazed his family.  His daughters joked that “Charlie was a Man of the People” because of his popularity and friend networks. 

Charlie was a man devoted to his family.  He was a caring and supportive son always wanting to make sure his mom was happy and well cared for.  He was a loving and supportive husband to his wife Suzanne for 37 years.  They enjoyed going on road trips, Sunday excursions and most importantly raising their 3 daughters.  He couldn’t do enough for his “Girls”.  He got involved and supported all their activities, sports, and interests.  He was a Band Booster, Soccer Coach, designed and built sets for BHS spring musicals, traveled all over the East Coast for soccer tournaments, and anything else that was important to his daughters.  His dog, Odin, and his daughter’s dog, Charlie, were his buddies.  The three of them could be seen driving all about in his truck.  It was difficult to figure out who enjoyed the rides more, Charlie or the dogs.  He also had a number of great friends, like Dana DiMarzo, his lifelong friend with whom he spent countless Thursday mornings questing for the perfect breakfast spot.  There will be a great void in the Giangreco home, but there will never be any regrets, only wonderful memories filled with the love shared with Charlie.

Charlie was the beloved husband of Suzanne E. (Boyle) Giangreco.  He was the loving father of Victoria Giangreco of Burlington, Stephanie Giangreco of Chelmsford & Andrea Giangreco of Burlington.  He was the loving son of Helen Giangreco of Malden, formerly of Burlington & Belmont and the late Dr. Anthony Giangreco.  He was the brother and brother-in-law of Anthony Giangreco & his wife Teri of Ridgefield, WA, Linda Kellum & her husband Mick of Malden and the late Maria Vanderleeuw and her surviving husband, John Vanderleeuw of Barnegat, NJ and Kathleen (Boyle) Folsom & her husband David of Montgomery, AL. Charlie is also survived by his dear companions, his favorite dogs Odin & Charlie.  

Funeral from the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 9 a.m.  Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m.  Interment to follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.  Visiting hours at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 1 from 3-6 p.m.   Memorials in Charlie’s name may be made to the TD Garden charitable organization Garden Neighborhood Charities (communityaffairs@tdgarden.com).  For directions, obituary & online guestbook see www.sullivanfuneralhome.net & www.stmargaretburlington.org
