Obituary of Mary Clancey

Mary Clancey, a woman blessed with a loving husband, large family, and many many friends in the Burlington area, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, October 30, 2012. She was 86 years old. Mary grew up in Somerville. Strikingly beautiful as a child and woman, her portrait was displayed in the Jordan Marsh front window, and then throughout Europe, as a Typical American Girl. She married Herb Clancey in 1946 and devoted her remaining 66 years to their growing family and the activites they shared. The Clanceys sang and played music together as a family both privately and publicly for many years; they performed for church services, hospitals, nursing homes, and community events. In recent years, Mary loved to sing at Council on Aging cabarets. Mary was well-known and often recognized in public from her long-running cooking show, From the Kitchen of Mary Clancey, filmed by her husband each week in their home kitchen. Mary and Herb were often found behind the camera as well, filming events at the Council on Aging, in church, town meetings, and other places around town for the BCAT station. Mary loved playing Mrs. Claus every year at the Phoning Santa at BCAT. Mary was a bundle of energy with endless hobbies and interests including ceramics, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, Westerns, and many types of crafts. She spent endless volunteer hours contributing her sense of humor and talents to many organizations and charities in Burlington. Mary's memory will always bring a smile to all those who loved her. Mary was the beloved wife of Herbert L. Clancey. She was the loving mother of Richard & his wife Phyllis of North Hampton, Dianne Tavano & her husband John of Newburyport, Pamela of Brighton, Gregory & his wife Nancy of Tewksbury and Brian of Bedford, NH.
