James “Jay” Marchese, Jr., retired Highway Lead Foreman for the town of Burlington, passed away at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center on Friday, May 15, 2020.  The beloved husband of 24 years to Patricia (Wagner), Jay was 64 years old.

Jay was born in Newton.  He was raised in Burlington and a graduate of Shawsheen Technical High School. After High School Jay entered the United States Army, serving his country for two years during peacetime. After that he began his career with the Town of Burlington DPW.  Jay would meet his future wife Trisha Wagner thru mutual friends in 1986.  They dated for ten years and grew their family before marrying in February 1996.  They settled in Burlington where they raised two beautiful daughters.

Jay worked for the Town of Burlington for 35 years.  He retired as the  Lead Highway Forman. He was recognized by the town, for his dedicated service to the DPW, at a Selectmen’s meeting on June 27, 2016 followed by a wonderful retirement party the following January. When his girls were younger, they enjoyed taking family vacations to the coast of Maine and walking the trails throughout Lexington and Concord. Summer afternoons were spent with family at his mom and dad’s pool. Jay was a big movie and television “buff”. His video and dvd collection filled a giant wall of shelves and he always made sure he had the latest and greatest tv on the market! Movies with his nephew were a special treat. He was a huge Star Trek and Dark Shadows fan, collecting memorabilia for years. Jay also built many model boats and space ships that he worked on for hours in his hobby room. He loved Christmas and prided himself on his unique Christmas trees, brightest yard decor and his giant Christmas village. He also enjoyed just tinkering around his yard, growing his garden, his mothers cooking, and above all, cherished long rides with his wife.

Jay’s greatest joy were his five grandchildren. He lived for his grandkids.  They were his pride and joy.  The reason for his very biggest smiles.  They enjoyed a memorable trip together to Disney a few years back and many trips to Lake Winnepesaki.  In his mind he could never give them too much. Jay will be remembered for his dedication and love to his family, friends and to the great community of Burlington.

Jay was the beloved husband of Patricia “Tricia” (Wagner).  Loving father of Trish McCoy & her husband Matth of Cumberland, RI and Nicole Margeson & her husband Andrew of Burlington.    Proud grandfather of Ailey, Jules, Brynn & Nora McCoy and Andrew “A. J.” Margeson.  Loving son of Dorothy Marchese & the late James of Burlington.  Brother of Stephen & his wife Jacqueline of Burlington, Daniel & his wife Marjorie of MN and Paul & his wife Joan of NH.  He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews the he was very proud of and loved dearly. Funeral Services will be private.  Memorials in Jay’s name may be made to the Carin MacLean Foundation, 18 Richard Banna Way, Seekonk, MA 02771-5343   www.carinmacleanfoundation.org
