Obituary of David R. Francis
David R. Francis, passed away at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton on Friday, February 2, 2013. The beloved husband of the late Bernice (Trenholm) he was 83 years old.
David was born in Cambridge. He was the son of the late Reigh Francis and Evelyn Hanright. He was raised and educated in Brighton and Cambridge. As David’s parents were originally from Prince Edward Island, Canada, in his youth, David often spent his summers on the island working with his many uncles in the potato fields. David loved the island as did his children and it was a source of comfort and renewal whenever he visited there. After high school, around 1947, David joined the US Air Force where he achieved the rank of Sergeant and served in many capacities including a black smith, aircraft mechanic and electrician.
David’s civilian employment included working for “High Voltage Engineering” where one of the projects he worked on was experimenting with radiating diamonds, beef and potatoes. Prior to retiring to Maine, he worked for over 15 years for “Bolt, Beranek and Newman” as an electrical draftsman. One of the more notable projects he was involved with was his work on the electrical blueprints for the cockpit of the Boeing 747. Retired in Maine, David was an avid golfer, Red Sox fan and he and his wife loved to take long drives through the Maine country side.
David was the beloved husband of the late Bernice (Trenholm). Loving father of Jean Guilbault of Malden, Donald & his wife Janet of Mansfield, and Shelley Starr & her husband Chuck of Biddeford, ME. Brother of Pauline Leeds of Buford, GA, Ronald Hanright of Chelmsford and the late Lorraine Simons and Ricky Hanright. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, Cherie, Brian, Tommy, Crystal, Heather, Jason, Tiffany, David, Valerie and Shelly Marie as well as 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials in David’s name may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
