Obituary of Eugenia Carabetta

Clicking on this link will bring you to St. Charles website where you can watch the Funeral Mass on Friday, Sept. 17 at 10 a.m.

Eugenia “Gina” (Ientile) Carabetta, a woman whose life centered around her family, passed away peacefully surrounded by those she loved on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021.   The beloved wife of the late Mario Carabetta, she was 74 years old.

Gina was born and raised in the town of Grotteria, Reggio Calabria, Italy.  She was one of six children born to the late Vincenzo & Rosa (Bruzesse) Ientile.   At the age of 14, Gina and her family immigrated to the United States for better opportunities, and settled in Woburn.  Gina would later marry Mario Carabetta, who was also from her hometown in Italy, in March of 1969.   They remained in Woburn where they started a family and raised their four children.  Gina’s family was the center of her life.  She was a proud mother and homemaker, who had to return to work to provide for her family, but this never stopped her from always having a home cooked meal on the table.

Gina was a selfless woman, never thinking of herself and always putting the needs of others ahead of her own.   She was generous and kind.  She enjoyed working in her garden, with her husband Mario, where they grew vegetables, fruit trees, and flowers.  Gina mostly enjoyed cooking, but more so loved to invite people into her home for countless meals and endless memories.

Gina and Mario had a happy life together; they were married 48 years at the time of his death in 2017.  She was a loving and supportive mother to their children, instilling in them the importance of family values and traditions that they will now carry on.    She loved her grandchildren, Olivia, Emily, Isabella, & Amilia.  She was blessed with her first great granddaughter Zoey, this year.  They were all her pride and joy.

Gina was the beloved wife of the late Mario Carabetta.  She was the loving mother of Antonio of Woburn, Vincenzo & his wife Jennifer of Burlington, Lidia Schwarz & her husband Jason of Woburn, and Laura McLaughlin & her husband Joel of Woburn.  Proud grandmother of Emily Carabetta, Olivia & Isabella Schwarz, and Amilia McLaughlin.  Great grandmother of Zoey.  Sister of Cathy Carella & her husband Vinny of Winchester, Maria Fulciniti of Woburn, Rita Gibson of Woburn, the late Lina Patrizio & her husband Nick of Woburn, and the late Joseph Ientile & his wife Elaine of Wilmington.  Gina is also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews.  Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Thursday, Sept. 16 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.  Funeral from the Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 17 at 9 a.m.  Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St., Woburn at 10 a.m.  Burial to follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
