Obituary of Jane N. Raymond
Jane, the most gracious, welcoming lady.
Jane was the daughter of Ernest & Amy Nord of Scituate. Her brother Peter Nord of Scituate predeceased her.
Jane attended UMASS Amherst where she met her husband, Paul. They married after Paul’s graduation as he was deployed to Germany. Jane went over to live with him, and they had over a year to travel Europe during his deployment.
They settled in Burlington in 1959 and it wasn’t long before they were involved in town politics & the United Church of Christ in Burlington.
She was known as the coffee hour Queen and Greeter extraordinaire at Church. She provided the after-church coffee hour for close to 30 years. Her mission was to provide sustenance, comfort, a place to chat & make people feel included. Very few people walked through the church door and were not greeted by her and introduced to others. She loved her church family. And they loved her back. Over the last few months, they supported her in a way that was unparalleled and very moving. So many cards, food visits, phone calls and prayers.
The most important part of Jane’s life was her family, and as it expanded, she was thrilled to have more people to love and care about. She was overjoyed when her children married and even more so when they had kids and even more so when she became a great grandmother. Her circle of friends was always expanding - it even included friends of her kids. She just loved sitting around and hearing all kinds of stories whether it was on the beach, the porch or in a backyard.
Jane enjoyed long friendships with her neighbors and friends in Burlington, and beyond. It seems the conclusion is she was a people person & loved every minute of it! Thank you all for your unwavering support.
Both she & Paul have a special spot in their heart for Bar Harbor Maine. They went every summer (except 2 covid years) for 47 years. Most of the time it was just the 2 of them, but it was so special when their family joined them.
Heartfelt thanks to the professionals that supported Jane & our family over the past months: Maureen her caregiver, Chris, Jean, Judy, Hillary & Maggie. They helped our family through this difficult time with compassion.
Jane was the beloved wife of Paul R. Raymond. She was the loving mother of Debra Raymond & her partner Kathy Hill of Waltham, Nancy Richards & her husband Steve of Seekonk, and Peter Raymond & his wife Maureen of Sandwich. She was the sister of the late Peter Nord. Jane was the proud grandmother of Noah Raymond & his partner Mikayla Morgan, Christian Raymond, Abigail Raymond, Jonah Raymond, Lily Raymond, Joel Raymond, Eleanor Raymond, Ashley Neal & her husband Daniel, Nicholas Richards & his partner Abbey Balint, and Samuel Richards. Great grandmother of Aiden, Addison, Athena, and Emrys.
