Obituary of Paul Douglas Hiltz
Paul Douglas Hiltz, a Navy Veteran and 47-year resident of Woburn passed on June 30, 2023. He was 75 years old. Paul was born in Cambridge. He was the only child of Loren and Alice Hiltz. His childhood was split between living in Cambridge, Tewksbury, and Burlington. He was a graduate of Burlington High School. He was drafted to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He served on the USS Harlan R. Dickson 708, which was a submarine tender. After his service, he worked for many years as a plater for Baird Atomic and Plater Electronics in Lynn. Always wanting to keep busy and be vital, Paul then worked as a security person for Buckland Security and Abel Security. He worked up until January of this year when his health issues finally forced him to retire. He was a bit stubborn and extremely independent when dealing with his declining health.
Paul enjoyed participating in sports as a youth and adult. He played baseball in and after high school for many years. He coached baseball in Burlington. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards and loved talking about present and past players. He also loved horse and dog racing. He even owned a greyhound named “Precious Steel”, that he raced in the Florida dog racing circuit. He didn’t win a lot of money but loved the excitement and the experience of being an owner. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing with Jeff Gordon being his favorite driver. He was always in the stands or on the sidelines for all his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. Paul was a very proud man, who never wanted to burden others, wanted to remain independent, and loved his family in his special way.
Paul was the beloved husband of 54 years of Virginia “Ginny” (Bussell) Hiltz. He was the loving father of Cynthia Bradley & her husband John of Peabody, Brian Hiltz & his fiancée Gina Teixeira of Nashua, NH, Nicole Hiltz of Woburn, and the late Nanci Lescard. He was the proud grandfather of John Lafferty, IV, Sean Lafferty, Madyson Hiltz, Braedyn Hiltz, Kayla Bradley, Brandon Hiltz, Brianna Leonard, and the late Brian Hiltz Jr..
