Obituary of Carolyn "Carol" McCauley
Carolyn “Carol” McCauley, a beloved wife and mother, passed away on Wednesday, October 4th at the age of 81. Carolyn was born in Revere to her parents Frank and Catherine Mango and grew up in Southie. When Carolyn was a kid, she and her friends would get on the T, take it around Boston, and go out shopping. They’d visit their favorite stores at the time, Jordan Marsh, Dickie Raymonds, Sears, Woolworth’s Five and Dime, and then take the subway back home. After her younger days in Southie, Carolyn and her family moved out to Wilmington, MA where she attended high school.
While living in Wilmington, Carolyn worked as an assembly line worker for Diamond Crystal Salt Company. In 1962, she met a man name John there, who was working on their supply chain team. The two dated and after a year and a half, were married in October of 1963. Their 60th wedding anniversary is at the end of the month. Carolyn and John lived in Wilmington for a few years before settling in Burlington in 1967. Carolyn worked as a hair stylist at Genieve’s which was conveniently located right next to their house and at Sweetheart Plastics for a few more years before retiring in the 1980s.
When she wasn’t working, Carolyn got tons of fulfillment being a mom. She and John raised three children, Maureen, Cathleen, and Tracey. The Skilton Lane neighborhood was great for raising kids. Her girls and the rest of the neighborhood children got together to play while the parents hung out. As her children started families of their own, she took immense pride in being a grandmother. Carolyn was at every graduation, baseball game, and dance recital to support her grandkids, and was most recently in attendance for her grandson, Ryan’s, wedding in August.
Carolyn loved watching QVC especially “In the Kitchen with David” while she worked out a new recipe. She was quite the baker, finding recipes in cookbooks and transcribing them into her own cookbook, making sure the recipe was just right. She ran with a tight group of ladies, as Carolyn, Jo, Carol, Camilla, Kay and Marianne could always be found at the bingo hall at the senior center. She stayed up to date on the latest hit music and pop culture, listening to Matty in the Morning religiously on Kiss108. Carolyn always had a fantastic sense of humor, summed up by her fond affection of Gnomes.
Carolyn was the beloved wife of John J. McCauley Jr. She was the loving mother of Maureen McCauley of Burlington, Cathleen Pigott and her husband Paul of Burlington, and Tracey McCauley of Burlington. She was the proud grandmother of Nicole Pigott of Burlington, Alexandra Pietrunti of Palm Coast, FL, and Ryan Pigott and his wife Lauren of Nashua, NH. She was the caring sister of the late Frank Mango Jr. and his wife Phyllis Mango of North Reading. She was the dear Sister-in-Law to Mary McCauley of Wilmington, and the late Richard McCauley. She cherished her pets, most recently her cats Hunter, and the late Jasper and Chloe.
