Obituary of Virginia Petrone

Virginia “Ginny” Petrone, a retired Registered nurse passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, May 21, 2013. She was 68 years old. Ginny was born in Hartford, CT, the daughter of the late Howard and Virginia McCarthy. She grew up and was educated in Hartford. She went to St. Anselm College where she earned a B.S. in Nursing. She not only came out with a degree from St. Anselm, but a future husband, fellow graduate Anthony Petrone, whom she married months after her graduation in 1967. They eventually settled in Burlington in 1972 to raise their family. Ginny worked for 22 years as a nurse at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington in the Endoscopy Department. She also shared her nursing skills as a volunteer for the Burlington Board of Health during their vaccination clinics and in an Endoscopy Medical Mission Trip to Cuba. She was also a member of the Massachusetts Nursing Society. Ginny’s kind heart and genuine concern for others made nursing the perfect career choice. Ginny was happiest when she was with her family and friends. She was a loving wife of 46 years to her husband Anthony. They shared the deep devotion for each other as well as their family. They enjoyed family vacations to Cape Cod and spending their retirement years wintering in Ft. Lauderdale. She was a very proud and supportive mother. She was always there for her children growing up and so proud off all their achievements and becoming parents themselves. She loved being a grandmother and seeing her grandchildren grow up and find their own interests and activities. She opened her home to anyone and made everyone feel as if they were home. Ginny had a close circle of girlfriends, whom she shared life experiences and special vacations together. As a nurse, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Ginny lived her life unselfishly and always placing the needs of others before her own. She was a wonderful role model and lived a life well worth emulating. Ginny was the beloved wife of Anthony J. Petrone of Burlington. She was the loving mother of Mary Johns & her husband Bill of Meriden, CT, Kristen Clifford & her husband Steven of Burlington, Brian Petrone & his wife Maureen of Burlington, and Jennifer Cedrone & her husband Michael of Billerica. She is survived by her brother; Jack McCarthy of Martha’s Vineyard. Ginny was the proud grandmother of Katie & Jack Clifford, Ava, Ali, & Gavin Petrone, Cameron Cappella, Anthony, Michael, & Gianna Cedrone. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Friday, May 24 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be private.
