Obituary of James Richard McLaughlin

James R. McLaughlin, Jr. a retired pressman and supervisor in the printing industry passed peacefully with his wife and 3 children by his side on Sunday February 11, 2024. He was 77 years old.

Jim was born and grew up in Medford, MA. He was the oldest of 3 children born to the late James R. McLaughlin, Sr. and the late Dorothy (Leonard) McLaughlin.

Jim's young years were filled with good times: trips to the family farm, and with friends on Warren St.,  Medford, MA.

Jim was a graduate of Medford Vocational High School.

Jim, also known as Jim Mac to his co workers, started his printing career at Cuneo Press in Cambridge, going on to Daniel's Printing in Everett as a pressman and foreman for over 20 years. He later worked as supervisor at Kirkwood Printing in Wilmington, MA and retired from RR Donnellyin Bedford MA at the age of 67.

Over his many years working, Jim's major goal was providing for his family and never turned down over time or double shifts to do so.

When he was not working, Jim kept himself busy, to say the least, with projects around the house and in his yard, he was always on the go.

Jim loved his vegetable garden, and sharing his knowledge with his grandchildren. He enjoyed giving away vegetables to family and friends and making his own tomato sauce.

When his children were young, the family spent many years at Heavenly Acres Campground, where Jim enjoyed driving the haywagon, and horse shoe tournaments on the Fourth of July.

When he retired, Jim and his wife purchased an R.V. and traveled to New Hampshire, Vermont, Florida and Cape Cod, eventually finding a cottage at Camper's Haven, Dennisport, MA, where Jim enjoyed the last few years of his life with his wife, children, grandchildren and his dog Bradley.

After recently celebrating 56 years of marriage this past November, Jim is survived by his wife Judith A. (Carr) McLaughlin, his sister Maureen McLaughlin and her partner Jack Endyke of Derry, New Hampshire, Jan McLaughlin, wife of is brother the late Leonard McLaughlin of Billerica, MA., his Aunt Katherine (Kay) Mahoney of Milford, MA, his daughter Stacy Stamm and Richard Stamm of Danvers, MA, his daughter Danielle Burnett of Salem, MA and his son James E. McLaughlin of Burlington, MA. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and recently a great grandchild.

A visitation for Jim will be held on Sunday, February 18, from 1 to 4 PM, at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington, MA 01803. A funeral will be held on Monday, February 19, at 10 AM at St. Margaret's Church, 111 Winn Street, Burlington, MA 01803, leaving from the funeral home at 9 AM. Burial will be private.
