Obituary of Gyorgy J. Lang
Gyorgy Joseph Lang was born October 31, 1929, in Nyirmeggyes, Hungary, and passed away on May 3, 2024, at 94, while residing in Sarasota, Florida. During his years in Hungary, he attended Law School, graduated, and practiced Law in the District Attorney's Office as a prosecutor. However, his career was cut short by the Soviet communist occupation, which resulted in the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. At 28, he and his 18-year-old wife, Eva Lang, escaped to the Austrian border, where he enlisted in the United States Army.
He had the strength and courage to build a new life with his wife in America and spent the majority of his life residing in Burlington, Massachusetts. He worked for Boston College for many years as a reference Law Librarian, a role that perfectly aligned with his deep love for the Law, American history, and World politics. His passion for soccer was evident in his initiative to start the soccer program at Boston College, where he also served as the first coach.
He retired in Sarasota with his second wife, Julie Lang, and together, they explored and enjoyed many of the city's fine arts. They also enjoyed traveling, returning to Hungary several times, and having new adventures cruising and visiting the Caribbean islands.
Gyorgy's love for his family was unwavering. He is survived by his two daughters, Peggy Ouellette and Eva Lang, and his second wife, Julie Lang. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eva Lang, and his son, George Lang, and his love for them remains a cherished part of his legacy. He also leaves behind four beloved grandchildren, Cory and Joshua Lang, Eric Ouellette, and Lucia Dube.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Memorial Mass at 10 AM on Saturday, August 3, At Saint Malachy Church, 99 Bedford St. Burlington.
