Obituary of Edward "Ed" T. Reardon

Edward T. Reardon, age 85, of Medford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2025.  He was the beloved husband of the late Helen (Loan) Reardon, with whom he had shared 36 wonderful years of marriage, prior to her passing in 1996.

Born in Cambridge, MA on October 7, 1939, he was one of five children born to the late William and Margaret (Hanlon) Reardon.  Following his high school graduation, Ed worked at MIT, one of many jobs.  Here, he met a man who saw something special in him, and it wasn’t long before Ed found himself working for the MA State Lottery during its inception.  Ed was a deeply logical man who had a knack for numbers and statistics, so it only made sense that he would become a Senior Systems Analyst with the MA State Lottery.  He was a pioneer of his time, creating algorithms and writing computer code to calculate the odds of a winning ticket and payout options that made the MA State Lottery possible and quite successful. He came away with a tremendous amount of pride from his time working there—although he was far too humble for anyone to know that.

Ed met his dear wife Helen when they were both young, but it didn’t take long for them to marry and start a family.  They raised three wonderful children in Medford, and together they truly set an example of working together to make a household strong.  In his free time, Ed was always sure to stay up to date with his Boston sports teams.  Whether he was on his front porch listening to the Red Sox game on his radio, or keeping tabs on the Celtics and Bruins, it was important for him to stay informed.  He also adored all things having to do with nature.  He would often go for long walks outside alongside his beloved Irish Setter, Baron, enjoying his surroundings. He loved a good documentary focused on nature, sports or history.  Ed was an excellent storyteller and kept everyone on their toes with his dry sense of humor.  In his later years, Ed began to break out of his shell a bit.  His entire life, he had always been the steadfast, stoic, and humble provider, but as his children grew older, he began to truly show how deeply he loved them all.  The pride he had for his children, grandchildren, and most recently great-grandchildren knew no bounds.  He was a genuine, salt of the earth man who always put his family and loved ones first and expected little in return.

Surviving Ed are his devoted children, Donna Centrella and her husband Joe of Burlington, Laurie Brennan and her husband Ed of Wilmington, and Ed Reardon of Lowell; his loving grandchildren, Rachel Moran and her husband Robert, Joseph Centrella, Sydney Brennan, Zachary Brennan, Kyle Reardon, and Olivia Reardon; his dear great-grandchildren Addison and Robert Joseph (RJ); his dear siblings, the late Phyllis Coronella of Medford, MA, Ellen Nangle of Florida, William Reardon of Missouri, and Robert Reardon of Maine, as well as many other dear nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Thursday, January 30th from 9:30 am until 11:30 am at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington.  His Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 30th at 12 pm at St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington.  Committal Service will immediately follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
