Obituary of James "Jim" H. Blanchard

James Harold Blanchard, of Burlington, formerly of North Andover, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday night, February 9, 2025. He was 61 years old.

Jim was born in Springfield, MA, the son of Reverend David Blanchard and Joan (Desjardins) Blanchard. He grew up in North Andover, where his father served as Minister of the North Parish Church. Jim graduated from North Andover High School in 1981.

Jim had a deep love for the outdoors, enjoying activities such as camping, canoeing, and fishing. Hermit Island in Small Point Maine held a special place in Jim’s heart, and it became a cherished destination for family summer vacations. These vacations began with camping and later included renting a cabin. Jim’s connection to the island was so strong that he worked there for a season.

Jim worked at Hewlett-Packard in Andover for many years as an expediter and bought a home in Andover.  Later in life he worked as a Recovery Specialist at an Addictions Recovery program having attained sobriety after struggling for many years with alcoholism. Resident clients at that program liked and trusted Jim, he remained sober the last 18 years of his life.

Jim’s family and friends will remember him for his humorous and mischievous personality, his fun-loving approach to life, his friendly and caring nature, and the empathy and kindness he shared with everyone he met.

Jim was the brother of Dave Blanchard of Haverhill, brother in law of Elizabeth Blanchard and loving uncle and Godfather to Shannon Blanchard and uncle of Meaghan Blanchard. Steven Dickey of North Andover remained his best friend since High School.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated at the North Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, North Andover on Sunday, February 23, at 2:00pm, an informal reception will follow.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jim’s name may be made to the Minister’s Discretionary Fund, care of the North Parish Church, 190 Academy Road, North Andover, MA 01845.  Arrangements under the assistance of the Edward V.
