Obituary of Christina Kakis

Christina Kakis, age 59, passed away on Saturday, March 1st at Mass General Hospital in Boston.

Born in Arlington, MA on December 25, 1965, she was one of two beloved daughters of the late Florence (Lawson) and Nicholas Kakis.  Christina was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when she was young, but that did not stop her from living life to the fullest.  She grew up in Burlington completed her education with Lexington’s High School LABB program.  Growing up, Christina loved playing with her sister and the other neighborhood children as often as possible, and enjoyed the sense of community she had with them.

Following her 20’s, she went on to live at a group home in Maynard for many years before moving to Concord.  At her time in the group homes, Christina made countless friends and enjoyed many different activities.  She always looked forward to the day programs offered, and would participate in exercise classes, or just getting the opportunity to socialize and make friends.  Once a week, Christina would go out with her Uncle John and Auntie Mae and they would take her to get her nails done, hair done, and go out for dinner.  These visits were a bright spot in Christina’s week, and she relished the opportunities to get out and pamper herself in some way.  To her core, Christina was a fun loving, kind woman.  She loved to laugh, and her laughter was truly infectious, so when you were with her you couldn’t help but laugh too.

Surviving Christina is her devoted sister, Susan Walker of Burlington; her dear niece, Marissa Walker of Burlington; her loving uncle, John Kakis of Woburn, as well as many other dear relatives and beloved friends from both group homes. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Thursday, March 6th from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington.  Her Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home at 12 p.m.  Burial will immediately follow in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
