Obituary of Anna Jane Sharland

Anna Jane Sharland, age 86, passed away peacefully at Sawtelle Family Hospice on Thursday, March 13th with her loving family by her side.  She was the devoted wife of the late Robert P. Sharland, with whom she had shared 60 wonderful years of marriage, prior to his passing.

Born in Boston, MA on September 10, 1938, she was one of three daughters of the late Charles and Rose (Ciampa) Fiore.  Jane was raised in Dorchester with her late sisters; Gloria “Rita” and Marie “Vicky”.  She graduated from Dorchester High School with the Class of 1957.  When she was only a senior in high school though, she met the love of her life, Bob on a blind date, and the two were married just one year after her graduation, in 1958.  They continued living in Dorchester for several years, before finally settling down in Burlington to raise their family in 1965.

In her free time, Jane loved to travel with her family, and with her loving husband Bob.  When the kids were growing up, they would go camping for their family vacations on the Cape and in Maine.  As they got older though, Jane and Bob found themselves traveling often.  They would take bus tours together all around the United States, and especially loved getting to take Bob’s motorcycle on day trips anywhere they could from the U.S. to Canada.  Jane was also incredibly involved with the Burlington community, dedicating much of her time to the Council on Aging, Meals on Wheels, and the Burlington Garden Club.  As she got older, Jane grew to love Sunday dinners at her daughter’s house, and spending copious amounts of her free time on homemade gifts for her loved ones.  She was an amazingly talented crocheter and knitter, and made baby sweaters and afghans for her friends and family.  She also loved needlepoint, cross-stitching, and embroidery as well.  Going out to breakfast with her great-grandchildren was a highlight of Jane’s week.  She always looked forward to spending time with family, and being with the people she loved most.  Jane will be remembered most for her feisty nature, wit, deep rooted generosity, and the unwavering love she gave to her family and friends.

Surviving Jane are her children, Jean Perry and her husband Kevin of Burlington, Steven Sharland and his wife Violet of Nashua, and Richard Sharland and his wife Jennifer of Hudson, NH; her grandchildren, Nicole McDonagh, Joshua Perry, Victoria Scripter, Logan Sharland, Shane Sharland, Lisa Searles, Rachael Paladino, and Elizabeth Paladino; her great-grandchildren, Lily and Owen McDonagh, Ayla and Connor Perry, Danvers Paladino, Oliver and Reagan Searles, Emmett and Sylvia Herling, as well as many other dear nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Jane was the beloved mother of the late Joan Paladino.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, March 19th from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington.  Her funeral service will be held in the funeral fome at 12 p.m.  Burial will immediately follow in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.

As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Jane’s honor may be made to either the Burlington Food Pantry or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
