Obituary of Jean M Leavitt
Jean M. (McKee) Leavitt, age 90, passed away peacefully at the Blaire House in Tewksbury on Saturday, March 22, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late John H. Leavitt, Jr., with whom she had shared many wonderful years of marriage prior to his passing.
Born in Woburn, MA on September 12, 1934, she was one of two children of the late Francis C. and Frances M. (Romano) McKee. Jean was raised in Weymouth and Woburn, MA, and graduated from Woburn High School, Class of 1952. Following her education, Jean settled down with the family in Burlington to raise her four children there. During her time in Burlington, she was an active community member, volunteering with the local food pantry and singing with the St. Margaret’s Church Choir.
In her free time, Jean was an avid reader and sewer. She was incredibly talented, and would make her own clothing as well as clothes for her children. In addition she was an incredible cook and would cook for family and friends. When she was able, she also enjoyed bowling in Burlington bowling leagues. Jean also had an innate love for learning, had worked toward a degree in Geriatrics taking courses at Northeastern, Cape Cod Community College, and UMass Amherst any chance she could. More than anything though, Jean loved her family. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always put her family first. Her quick wit, strong will, and independent nature set her apart from most people, along with her impeccable sense of style. Above all else though, Jean adored being with her family, and spending time and making memories with them were her top priorities.
Surviving Jean are her four beloved children, Joanne Crisera-Lamb of Woodridge, NJ, Richard J. Kelly, Jr. and his wife Debi of Peabody, Mark S. Kelly of Woburn, and Lynne A. Kelly her wife Paula M. Conti of N. Reading; her dear grandchildren, Amy Marie Crisera and her partner Karen of NY, Joseph A. Crisera of NY, and Richard Crisera and his wife Sarah of Maryland; her 6 great-grandchildren; her loving sister, Geroma Gurney and her husband Richard (Dick) of Long Island, NY, as well as many other dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
