Obituary of Timothy B Moloney
Timothy “Tim” Moloney, of Tewksbury, formerly of Methuen and Burlington, and proud owner of TSM Lawn Service, passed away suddenly on the morning of Wednesday, April 9, 2025. He was 64 years old.
Tim was one of five children born to Peter and Mary Moloney. To say he grew up in a home steeped in Irish tradition would be an understatement. Both of his parents were Irish immigrants, deeply involved in nearly every Irish organization in the Boston area. As children, Tim and his siblings truly believed everyone must have come from County Kerry. The family spent weekends at Irish festivals, dances, and any event that connected them to their heritage. Tim and his siblings performed in Irish step-dancing groups across the Boston area—even appearing on television.
Tim graduated from Burlington High School in 1978, where he played football as an underclassman. His first job was at the Bonanza Steak House in Burlington, where he worked his way up to manager in his mid-twenties. After 10 years, he moved on to manage the busy 99 Restaurant on Middlesex Turnpike in Billerica, where the fast pace kept him on his toes.
While working in the restaurant industry, Tim often helped his father with a small lawn service. Eventually, after two decades in food service, Tim followed his heart and made a career change. He launched his own landscaping business, TSM Lawn Service, which he proudly owned and operated for more than 30 years. He served both residential and commercial clients—including large commercial developments and Merrimack College—but he never forgot the loyal homeowners who helped him get started. Landscaping was more than just a job for Tim—it was a perfect fit. He loved being outdoors, staying active, and seeing the immediate results of his hard work. He ran a small, hands-on crew and maintained every piece of equipment with care and precision—from his trucks and tractors down to his weed whacker. His attention to detail and commitment earned him loyal customers who stayed with him for decades.
At the heart of Tim’s life was his family. Whether as a son, brother, husband, father, or grandfather, he was always there—ready to lend a hand, even if it started with a bit of grumbling. That was classic Tim: quick to express frustration, even quicker to jump in and get the job done with love. His daughters were his pride and joy. He made time for them, whether it was coaching their softball teams (and using his landscaping skills to improve the fields), cooking breakfast favorites like his grilled French toast and legendary meatballs, or heading off on family vacations. Some of the best memories were made in North Conway, Cape Cod, camping trips to Gunstock, and especially the annual two-week getaway to Salisbury Beach. If you knew Tim, you knew his greatest title was Papa, a role he was the proudest of and those that made him Papa – Gianna, Leo and Livi! He lived for these kids, to be around them all the time, caring for them, playing with them, guiding them, it was what he treasured most in his life to see their joy. Whether it was being Gianna’s taxi driver with her and her friends, or bringing Leo and Livi to McDonalds to get happy meals, just being with them was his everything.
Tim will be remembered in many different ways. Some knew him as “Sweet and Sour”—a tough outdoorsman with a heart of gold. Others recall his unique sense of humor, his sharp one-liners, and the way he made everyone laugh, even when they didn’t expect it. But to all who truly knew him, Tim was a hard-working man who always put family first and loved deeply.
His passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his memory will forever bring a smile.
Tim was the beloved husband of the late Susan C. (Frasca) Moloney. He was the proud father of Melissa Moloney of Tewksbury and Michelle Moloney & her husband Carlos Munoz, Jr. of Methuen. He was the fun and caring “Papa” of Gianna Billings, Leo Timothy Moloney-Munoz and Livi Susan Moloney-Munoz. He was the brother of Kevin Moloney & his wife Kathi of Lowell, Caroline Souza & her husband Jim of Burlington, Kerry Ferreira & her husband Mark of Billerica, and the late Peter A. Moloney & his surviving wife Andrea Moloney of Billerica. Tim was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held in St. Malachy Church in St. Veronica Parish, www.stveronicama.org, 99 Bedford Street, Burlington on Friday, April 18 at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with an interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, in Burlington. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, please plant a tree or shrub around your home to honor Tim’s lifelong love of outdoors.
