Obituary of Margaret "Peggy" DeVingo
Margaret “Peggy” DeVingo, of Billerica, formerly of Burlington and Revere, passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday, April 12, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was 82 years old.
Peggy was born in Malden and raised in the Beachmont section of Revere, where she created cherished memories that stayed with her throughout her life. She met her beloved husband, Joseph, after his return from military service. The two fell in love and were married in 1966, beginning their life together in Malden before settling in Burlington in 1976 to raise their family.
Peggy was the heart and soul of her family—the matriarch and the guiding force. She was a devoted and loving wife to Joe for over 40 years, and a deeply involved and supportive mother and grandmother. Whether she was coaching her children’s softball teams, cheering from the sidelines at school and sporting events, or helping with homework, Peggy was always present and engaged. Family vacations, especially the treasured annual summer trips to Lake Winnipesaukee at the Channell Motor Court, created memories that will live on for generations.
As “Nana,” Peggy was all-in, a truly committed grandparent. At Nana’s house the kids were welcomed with warm hugs and had magical sleepovers, complete with baking cookies and breakfast that included her special chocolate chip pancakes. She relished back-to-school shopping trips and took great pride in going crazy for Christmas and birthdays. A true family highlight were Sunday dinners, especially warm-weather cook-outs that always included her legendary potato salad.
Peggy was a career woman, too. She dedicated over 35 years to Burlington Day Care. She started as a teacher in the lower level of the Church of Christ Congregational, and continued as the center grew and relocated to B Street when she was promoted to the center’s Assistant Director. Teaching was not just a job to Peggy it was a true calling. She had a deep love for children and a remarkable ability to connect with them through compassion, creativity, and warmth. She also enjoyed the close relationships she developed with parents, many of whom remained lifelong friends. One of her greatest joys was seeing former students grow up and even become parents themselves, living proof of the lasting impact she had on so many lives.
Peggy also found great joy in her hobbies. She was a talented seamstress, creating everything from window curtains, handmade dresses and Halloween costumes to doll clothes and even a bridesmaids gowns. She loved flower garden and tackling landscaping projects. She was often the lifeguard at her backyard pool. A passionate sports fan, she cheered on the Celtics, Red Sox, and Bruins with enthusiasm.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life—she was a devout Catholic, a longtime member of St. Margaret’s Church, and a daily Mass attendee.
Peggy lived a life filled with purpose, love, and joy. She touched the lives of hundreds of children, while also nurturing her own family with unwavering devotion. Peggy will be lovingly remembered as a woman of deep kindness, endless compassion, and steadfast love. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she shaped and the family she adored. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Peggy was the beloved wife of the late Joseph DeVingo. She was the loving mother of Patricia DeVingo of Lowell, Joseph DeVingo, Jr., and his wife Robin of Norwood, Jennifer Montesanti & her husband Dominic of Billerica, and Elizabeth Leonard of Billerica. She was the proud “Nana” of Victoria Newton & her husband Ryan, Isabella DeVingo, Francesca DeVingo, Joseph DeVingo, Jaylen Montesanti, Ava Montesanti, Alex Leonard, Brayden Leonard, and Devin Pelle. She was the great grandmother of Ruby Newton. Peggy is also survived by her special cousin who was like a sister, Helen Gaudet.
