To the family of Loretta Dunn,
I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and my friend, Loretta.
Loretta was a generous soul who supported those around her. She was always ready to help others, whether it was her family, colleagues, or people in the wider community. Her support could come in the form of distributing needed supplies or through her wonderful cooking. She also had a remarkable ability to connect people who were in a position to assist others.
At work, Loretta was a central figure in the department, keeping things organized and running smoothly, and creating a friendly environment with her wonderful monthly birthday cakes.
She will be missed. Thank you, Loretta, for being a friend to us all.

Aunt Loretta was a big part of so many of my earliest memories with the family. I will always remember and hold dear to my heart the holidays and special occasions where everyone would come together and enjoy each others company. What an amazing family. Aunt Loretta was always so good us, always remembering my 2 little guys in Maryland every year. I wish we could have spent more time with her, and all of you, throughout the years. I’m so sorry for the loss of such an inspirational woman. She will be greatly missed.

Loretta was a bright light in my life, both in childhood and adulthood. Some of my earliest memories are of her bringing me coloring books and making sure I felt entertained and cared for whenever I visited my Mom at MITRE. Even after she retired and I grew up, Loretta never stopped showing her thoughtfulness—every year, without fail, she sent me a beautiful card on my birthday and during the holidays. I looked forward to them so much that I’ve saved every single one in a drawer in my desk. Her kindness and generosity always touched me, especially knowing she continued to care from afar, even when I was living across the country. Loretta made a lasting impact on everyone she met, and she will be deeply missed.

She saved the day so many times with her rapid response travel rearrangement skills. She smoothed over so many late forms we needed to have signed by hand carrying them to the authorized person and waiting patiently for them to act. She was filled with kindness and generosity. Nobody would dare refuse a request from her and she used her superpowers for all of us who worked with her at MITRE. She taught us the right way to cut the large birthday cakes she baked for us once a month. Those cakes made birthdays true special events in the office and the smiles they generated stuck with us for days. I've missed Loretta on many occasions since her retirement and I'm glad she got plenty of time to spend with her family since then. I feel privileged that I shared some years in the office with her.

To Loretta’s family -
I worked with Loretta at MITRE years ago. I was in my 20s at the time, and Loretta made sure I properly cared for, doted on, and fed! I still have her eclair recipe, complete with the handwritten annotations she added to clarify certain steps. I was a neophyte baker and cook at the time, and she wanted to make sure my baking was successful. That’s who she was - someone who wanted others to succeed. I will never forget her.

Loretta was a woman whose kindness and compassion knew no bounds. When my ailing mother moved in with me, Loretta became a true friend, offered us warmth and comfort during a time of change. She told us stories about her children and grandchildren, of whom she was very proud. Her thoughtful gestures and joyfulness at the senior center was the antidote that we needed. She had a way of making you a friend instantly. We were deeply grateful for her presence in our lives. I will miss your smile and laughter, Loretta.

Dear Judy, Cheryl, and Loretta’s family,
I was deeply saddened by the loss of your beloved mother, grandmother. Loretta was a very respected and loved colleague and friend at work. She was like a parent of the work family and took care of everyone with her love and wisdom. Her love and care were even extended to kids who visited the office. Loretta will live in our hearts forever. Her legacy indeed makes it a good place for us all. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time.
