Obituary of Henrietta "Tetta" Carbone

Henrietta “Tetta” (Vernacchio) Carbone of Woburn, a cherished wife, mother, sister, nana, aunt, cousin, friend, and educator, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 3, surrounded by her loving family. She was 78.

Born in Boston, Tetta was the daughter of the late Gerald “Jerry” and Concordia “Connie” (Ferrara) Vernacchio.

After earning her master’s degree, Tetta was employed as an elementary school teacher for many years working in the Weston, Lexington, Winchester and Arlington school systems.

Tetta was the loving wife of almost 50 years to John Carbone of Woburn.

Before settling into family life, Tetta enjoyed a vibrant chapter of travel and exploration with a close-knit group of her teacher friends, journeying through Europe and South America. Those early years were rich with friendship and a shared passion for adventure. But it was in the quieter moments, building a home, raising children, and nurturing a family, that Tetta found her greatest joy. She took immense pride in attending her children’s many sporting events and supporting all of their interests.

Tetta was passionate about her beloved Boston sports teams and was often the loudest in the room cheering for the Patriots, Celtics, and the Red Sox—even after marrying a devoted Yankees fan. She was unbeatable at Scrabble and took great joy in cooking for her family.

Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she embraced her role as Nana with open arms and a full heart. She cherished every moment spent with her grandsons, from attending their games, overnight visits and playing bingo and go-fish. Tetta also treasured outings with her sister, friends, and cousins—especially their cherished breakfast and lunch dates, which were always overflowing with laughter.

She is survived by her devoted husband John Carbone; her children, who were her pride and joy; Amanda Carbone of Woburn, Matthew Carbone and his wife Yana of Newton, and Rebecca Carbone of Watertown, her beloved grandchildren; Sebastyan and Ethan Carbone, her sister Janice Deyoe and her husband Douglas of Acton, as well as two godchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 10th at 11:30am at St. Barbara’s Parish, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, her burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org or the American Cancer Association at  www.cancer.org.
