Obituary of Rebecca "Becky" Lynn Blanchette
Rebecca “Becky” Lynn Blanchette, beloved daughter, sister and member of Northeast Arc, passed away Sunday, May 11, at the age of 47.
Becky was born in Stoneham, the beloved daughter of Leo J. Blanchette Jr and Pamela (Trainor) Blanchette.
Becky was born with Rett Syndrome a rare, progressive neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by a period of normal development followed by a regression in language and motor skills. This diagnosis didn’t stop Becky from teaching all her family how to be better people.
Though her disease stole her ability to talk, it did not take away her ability to communicate. Her smile lit up a room. She loved music and therapeutic horseback riding.
The members of her group home were like a second family. She was never one to complain and was happy to be with friends and family.
She is survived by her loving parents, Leo and Pamela Blanchette of Estero Fl, her adoring brothers, James Blanchette and his wife Heather of Milledgeville, Ga., and Michael Blanchette and his husband Matthew Fox of Ft. Myers, Fl, a niece Olivia Blanchette and a nephew Isaac Blanchette as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
All funeral services are private and are under the direction of the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St. Burlington Ma, www.sullivanfuneralhome.net. To honor Becky, contributions in her memory may be made to the International Rett Syndrome Research Foundation at www.rettsyndrome.org or by mail to International Rett Syndrome Foundation 4500 Cooper Road, Suite 204, Cincinnati, OH 45242.
