Stephen A. Ghio Obituary

Stephen A. Ghio, most notably of Burlington, MA and Princeton, MA passed away Saturday morning due to a long illness. Steve was born in Providence, RI.  After moving often throughout his childhood, his parents settled in Burlington during Steve’s high school years where he met his future wife, Eileen Zwicker. They later bought a house in Princeton, MA where they lived for many years and raised their three children.

Steve was known for his sense of humor and quick wit. He enjoyed quiet time at home with his wife, spending time with family, watching sports with his sons, and playing along with Jeopardy. He loved reading western novels, doing crosswords and playing scrabble with his sons. A lover of animals and nature, he enjoyed fishing, camping, feeding the birds and caring for many stray cats in Princeton. He adored his pets, most notably Birdy his peach-faced lovebird and Heidi his black-and-white cat.

Steve was a dear son of the late Julius and Joan Ghio.

Steve was a loving husband to his wife Eileen for nearly 47 years. He also leaves behind his children Stephen Ghio, Jr. of Ashland, Kevin Ghio and his partner Amrita of Sturbridge, and Amy Mahoney and her husband Brian of Harvard. He loved spending time with his three beloved grandchildren, Emma, Patrick and Rafael.

He will be fondly remembered by his sister Karen Poulin and husband Jim Poulin of Carver and brothers Andrew Ghio and his wife Beth Ann of Chapel Hill, NC, Peter Ghio and his wife Noreen of Burlington, Paul Ghio of Gardner, and David Ghio and his wife Sharon of Burlington and many nieces and nephews. Steve also loved Eileen’s siblings Lorraine McCarty of Stoneham, Arthur Zwicker of Burlington and the late Karen Hannon of Billerica.
