Obituary of Eleanor Theurer
Eleanor Theurer, passed away at the Elizabeth Evarts de Rham Hospice Home of Cambridge, on Friday morning, August 16, 2013, with her family at her side. She was 83 years old. Eleanor was born in Belfast, Ireland, the daughter of the late William and Mary Agnew. Following the end of World War II, at the age of 16, she was sponsored by her aunt Nellie to come to the United States. She went to work as a clerk at Jordan Marsh in Boston and eventually became buyer in Jordan Marsh’s intimate apparel department. She continued to work most of her career in retail sales and ended her career working for Filene’s in Salem, New Hampshire. She spent most of the last 20 years living in Andover, but in recent years had returned to Burlington.
In 1956 she had moved to Burlington to raise her family. She loved the ocean and, in those years, Wingaersheek Beach was one of her favorite destinations spent with her children. Eleanor was an extremely outgoing and caring woman who had vast and diverse group of friends and acquaintances and she was a longtime friend of Bill W. Wherever she went, she was almost certain to bump into someone she knew. Eleanor also had a wide range of interests including gardening, flower arranging, reading, and cooking which she often shared with her family.
She was a loving and supportive mother to her children and their spouses. She loved being a grandmother and the exceptional blessings a grandparent receives seeing her family grow in numbers and as a family unit. In her final days and years, her family was there to comfort and support her, just as she had done for them throughout their lives.
Eleanor leaves her children and their spouses; Mark Theurer & his wife Janice of Chelmsford, Brian Theurer & his wife Donna of Burlington, and Janet Theurer & her husband Tom Briggs of Cambridge. She was the sister of William Agnew, Marie O’Hare and Pat Archer all of Belfast, Ireland. She was the proud grandmother of Lauren, Ryan, Emily & Sean Theurer and Leah Briggs.
