Obituary of Susan Therese Diffley

Susan Therese Diffley of Burlington, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025 surrounded by her loving family following a courageous three and a half year battle with ovarian cancer.

Susan was born in Winchester, MA on November 7, 1964 to the late Robert H. Carr, Sr and the late Dorothy O’Brien Carr. She grew up and was educated in Arlington, graduating from Arlington High School in 1982 and then matriculating to Boston College where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Despite her son later becoming a BU Terrier, she remained a very proud Eagle and loved that her daughter’s masters degree made her an Eagle too. She later went on to receive a Masters degree in Finance from Bentley University.

Susan then began her career as an accountant first working for Bank of New England, then Bank of America and most recently for Channel Building Company.

Susan found beauty in all aspects of summer. She loved Coffins beach in Gloucester, MA and walking at low tide searching for sand dollars. She enjoyed taking rides on the boat and never wanted to miss a sunset. Thankfully her family shared one last sunset with her on June 12. When not at the beach, Susan took pleasure in spending time at her pool.

Above all, Susan’s greatest joy was her family. She was devoted to her husband Greg with whom she shared many special memories since college. Susan was endlessly proud of her children, Brien and Jacqueline, and never missed an opportunity to support them in their endeavors. She cherished the holidays, finding warmth in all the time spent with her family. Susan had a wide circle of friends, and her impact on them was profound.

In addition to her parents, Susan is predeceased by her brother Kevin Carr.

She is survived by her loving husband Gregory Diffley of 34 years, and adoring children Brien Diffley and his partner Elise Klapprodt, and Jacqueline Diffley. She is the adored sister of Robert H Carr Jr., and his wife Sandra of Stoneham and June Byrne and her husband Jack of Burlington. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the sun in her family’s solar system.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Susan’s visiting hours on Tuesday, June 17 from 4pm to 7pm, at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St. Burlington. Funeral from the Sullivan Funeral Home will be on Wednesday June 18 at 9am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret’s Church in St. Veronica Parish, 111 Winn Street Burlington, at 10am. Burial will follow in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
