Obituary of Carol R. McCarthy
Carol R. (Schultz) McCarthy, age 66, passed away on June 27, 2025, following a courageous five-year battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Paul McCarthy, with whom she shared over 40 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Cambridge, MA, on June 10, 1959, Carol was one of six children of the late Stanislaw and Delia (Ambrose) Schultz. She graduated from Burlington High School with the Class of 1977 and went on to earn an associate degree in Business Administration from Middlesex Community College.
Carol began her career at the law firm Palmer & Dodge, later working at Woodstock Investments. For the past 17 years, she served as a trust administrator at Fiduciary Trust. Carol held herself to the highest standards of professionalism, earning the deep respect of her colleagues and the enduring loyalty and appreciation of her clients.
From the moment Carol and Paul met, they were inseparable. Their trust and love was immeasurable. They loved to travel—whether to New Hampshire, Colorado, or Key West, and simply enjoyed getting away together. But more than the destinations, it was the people they traveled to see that brought her the most joy. She was affectionately known as the “fun aunt” by her nieces and nephews, a title she earned not only because she made them a priority, but also because of her contagious laugh and sparkling sense of humor. She created countless cherished memories with them and was always ready for an adventure.
The addition of their beloved dog, Chopper, fulfilled a lifelong dream. Carol adored him with all her heart, and the feeling was mutual—his tail wagged with such excitement at the sight of her. Chopper gave Carol unconditional love and comfort, playing an essential role in helping her cope with the many challenges of her illness.
Carol was truly beautiful inside and out. Fiercely loyal, she stood by her loved ones through life’s highs and lows without hesitation. Her strength and resilience in the face of adversity were nothing short of inspiring. People were naturally drawn to her warm, bubbly personality and radiant smile. Even in her most difficult moments, Carol’s spirit remained strong, courageous, and always open to joy and laughter.
At her core, Carol was a kind, fun-loving, and tenacious woman who consistently put others before herself. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering strength that will be remembered by all who knew her.
Along with her loving husband Paul, Carol is survived by her dear siblings Peter Schultz and his wife Lori of Tewksbury, Nancy Schultz of Townsend, and Laura Lavigne and her husband Joe of Waltham; her adoring nieces and nephews, Eric Treem and his wife Sara of Georgetown, Amy Lavigne of Waltham, Jen Lavigne of San Diego, CA, and Derek Lavigne of Waltham; her beloved great-nieces and nephews, Ava, Lila, and Violet Treem of Georgetown, and Ian Duffy of Marshfield, and her beloved dog, Chopper, and her lifelong friend Robin Garside. as well as many other dear relatives and friends.
