Virginia Marie Morrissey, a devoted aunt, world traveler, and woman of deep faith, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, at the Woburn Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 94 years old.

Born in Brighton, Massachusetts, Virginia was the beloved daughter of the late William P. and Catherine V. (Ryder) Morrissey. She was raised in Brighton, where she attended the local school system and graduated from Our Lady of Presentation High School.

Virginia spent many years working for the New England Telephone Company, where her dedication and meticulous nature were highly valued. Though she never had children of her own, Virginia poured her heart into her role as an aunt, treating her niece and nephew as if they were her own. She made lasting memories with them, including a cherished trip to Hawaii, a testament to her generous spirit and love of adventure.

A lifelong explorer, Virginia’s passion for travel took her to many corners of the world. She journeyed to Ireland, England, China, Hawaii, and the Grand Canyon, among other destinations. Her preferred way to see the country was by bus, and she was a loyal passenger on Yankee Tours, often enjoying the voice of Rex Trailer during her travels. These trips were a source of great joy and reflection for her.

Virginia was also a deeply spiritual person. Her faith was central to her life, and she was a longtime Eucharistic Minister at St. Margaret’s Church. Whether helping with Mass, supporting church activities, or simply offering a kind word to those in need, Virginia found fulfillment in service and community.

In quieter moments, Virginia found comfort and pleasure in life’s simple joys. Whether she was engaged in a crossword or a jigsaw, her mind remained sharp and focused well into her later years.

She was predeceased by her brother, William P. Morrissey Jr.

Virginia is survived by her cherished niece, Bonnie Morrissey of Burlington, a nephew, Billy Morrissey III of Tewksbury,  who will always remember her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visitation on Thursday morning, July 17, from 8:30am to 9:30am at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St. Burlington. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am, Thursday, at St. Veronica’s Parish in St Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St. Burlington with interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
