Richard P. "Rick" Legier, Sr. Obituary

Richard P. Legier, Sr., affectionately known as "Rick," "Big Rick," or simply "BR," passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 72 years old. Rick was the devoted husband of Sharon M. (Ruggieri) Legier, with whom he had just celebrated a remarkable 50 years of marriage—a milestone that reflected the deep bond and enduring love they shared.

Born in Cambridge, MA, Rick was the cherished son of the late Donald and Mildred (Romano) Legier. He grew up in the heart of Cambridge, where he met Sharon, the love of his life, during their youth. Their love story blossomed over the years, leading them to settle in Somerville before planting roots in Burlington in 1983, where they built a warm and welcoming home filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable memories.

Big Rick was the kind of father every child dreams of—cool, compassionate, and endlessly supportive. To his children's friends, he was "The Legend," always ready with a helping hand, a listening ear, or a good laugh, no matter the hour. He coached basketball and softball, cheered the loudest at every game, and stood as a pillar of strength through life's highs and lows. He worked hard to support his family and made sure his children had things he never did. His pride in his children and his love for them were boundless, and he took every opportunity to tell them so. That pride and love only deepened when he became 'Pop Guy' to his beloved grandson, RJ. Whether they were playing, tinkering, or simply spending time together, Pop Guy's love for RJ radiated in every moment they shared.

A master technician and self-taught car whisperer, Rick found joy in anything with an engine. He could diagnose a car’s issue before the hood was even popped, and his skills extended far beyond the garage. A true jack-of-all-trades, Rick was the go-to guy for friends and family alike—always ready to lend his expertise, his tools, and his time. While his son worked hand-in-hand with him, his daughter preferred to assist from the sidelines, learning all the tricks of the trade—but both inherited his curiosity and can-do spirit.

Rick's love extended to the family's four-legged members as well. He shared a special bond with Tyson, Bailey, and Razor—beloved pets who passed before him and are now surely resting easy by his side once again. His gentle, caring nature made him a favorite among pets and people alike. He was a man of quiet strength, deep compassion, and unwavering loyalty. To know him was to be loved by him.

Rick leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and integrity. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon; his devoted children, Lynsey M. Legier, Esq. and her longtime partner Antoine J. Ramos, and Richard P. “Ricky” Legier, Jr. and his partner Krissy Varney; and his treasured grandson, Ricky Jace “RJ” Legier. He is also survived by his loving sister-in-law Maureen Stanton and brother-in-law Jay Stanton of Tewksbury, and his sister-in-law Marjorie Ruggieri of Plymouth, wife of his late brother-in-law James Ruggieri. Rick will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends..

Rick’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a hero, a mentor, a friend, and above all, a family man. His goofy and harmless crude sense of humor was one he proudly shared with his children, and those who know and love them are all too familiar with its charm and uniqueness. His memory will forever be a blessing.
