Bartolomeo Buonopane Obituary

Bartolomeo Buonopane, age 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 31st at Aberjona Rehabillitation and Nursing Center with his loving family by his side.  He was the devoted husband of Santa (Macioce) Buonopane, with whom he had shared over 60 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in Mirabella, Avellino, Italy on April 2, 1934, he was a son of the late Achille and Teresa (Cerrato) Buonopane.  Bartolomeo was raised in Italy until the age of 14, when he moved with his father to Argentina.  He stayed living there until he turned 18, and when the rest of his family had settled in America, he joined them.  The North End of Boston is where Bartolomeo called home for many years.  Here he made countless lifelong friends, and met the love of his life Santa.

Bartolomeo and Santa settled down in Brighton after they got married and eventually made their forever home in Burlington, where they lived for over 40 years.  Even after moving away from the North End, Bartolomeo would still make regular trips back to visit his friends and enjoy Italian coffee and a few laughs with them at local shops.  He also loved watching World Cup soccer or simply relaxing at home with a good snack and an animal or two to keep him company.  Oftentimes, you could find him tending to his beloved vegetable garden.  Above all, though, Bartolomeo loved his family.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished the time he spent and the memories he made with them.  His easygoing, lighthearted nature always helped keep his friends and family close.

Along with his dear wife, Bartolomeo is survived by his beloved children, Stephen Buonopane and his wife Lauri of Bedford, John Buonopane and his wife Carla of Wilmington, and Michael Buonopane and his wife Pauline of Burlington; his grandchildren, Sophia Buonopane, Michael Buonopane, Madelyn Buonopane, Sarah Dickson and her husband Jimmy, and Isabella Buonopane; his adoring great-grandchildren, Sadie, Aurora, and Declan; his sister, Rose Giannasca of Medford; his brother-in-law, Aldo Macioce and his wife Rosina of Brighton, as well as many other dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Monday, August 4th from 4 pm until 7 pm at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington.  His Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 5th beginning at 9 am at the Funeral Home, followed by a 10 am Mass at St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn.  Burial will immediately follow in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester.
