Maureen M Gardner Obituary

Maureen M. Gardner, a woman of deep compassion and empathy who devoted her life to caring for others as a nurse, mother, wife, and friend, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, August 8, 2025. She was 76 years old.

Maureen was born in Chelsea and raised in Somerville, where she received her education. Her path crossed with her future husband, Ron Gardner, on a night out dancing with friends—a meeting that might never have happened if not for the boldness of Ron’s friend. Maureen and Ron were married in 1969 and began a beautiful life together, eventually making their home in Billerica, where Maureen lived for more than 40 years.

From a young age, Maureen was the kind of person who always thought of others before herself. She pursued her calling at Rivier University, where she earned her degree in nursing. As a registered nurse, Maureen worked in a variety of roles—including elder care, visiting nurse, and as a member of the Liver Transplant team at the Lahey Clinic. She concluded her career as a nurse liaison for Visiting Nurse and Community Health, Inc.

Her decades of clinical experience, combined with her natural empathy, made her a skilled and compassionate caregiver. She had a gift for communication and advocacy, always ensuring her patients received the best care possible. Nursing wasn’t just her job—it was her purpose.

Maureen’s nurturing spirit extended well beyond her professional life. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, and friend. If someone in your family was sick and you didn’t know what to do, Maureen was the one you called. Her warmth, kindness, and ability to connect with others made her a beloved figure in her community.

She and Ron were active members of the Billerica Lions Club, where Maureen served in multiple capacities. Together, they contributed their time and energy to numerous charitable, social, and community events over the years.

One of Maureen’s greatest joys was spending summers at Lake Winnipesaukee. For the past 30 years, she and Ron enjoyed their modest home in Paugus Bay, Laconia, which became a cherished gathering place for family and friends. Whether it was a boat ride to Wolfeboro, Meredith, or Alton, a relaxing day at the sandbar near the Margate Resort, or an evening around the campfire, Maureen loved making memories on the lake.

Above all, Maureen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She and Ron shared a wonderful marriage filled with laughter, partnership, and unconditional love. She was a supportive and nurturing mother to their three children, always there to offer guidance, comfort, or simply a listening ear.

Maureen adored her only grandchild, Brittani, and created countless special memories with her—from trips to Santa’s Village and Canobie Lake Park to everyday moments filled with love and joy.

She was a gracious host and an exceptional cook, known for her delicious Italian-inspired meals. Family dinners at her home were a feast of love—starting with appetizers and continuing through multiple courses until everyone was full...and then came dessert. No one ever left Maureen’s home hungry!

Maureen lived her life in service to others. Her heart was open to all—those she loved and even those she had just met. She put her soul into caring for everyone who entered her life. Her memory will forever bring a smile to the faces of those lucky enough to have known her.

Maureen was the beloved wife of the late Ronald P. Gardner.  She was the devoted daughter of the late Elaine and Baldassare "Ben" Angelo. She was the caring and supportive mother of Stacey M. Gardner of Nashua, NH, Jeff M. Gardner & his partner Lisa Bodi of Waltham, and the late Ronald B. Gardner.  She was the special grandmother of Brittani M. Gardner.  She was the sister of Stephen Angelo & his wife Susan of Lynn and the late Charles Angelo.  She was the sister-in-law of Susan Gardner Evans of Henderson, NV.  She was the niece of Nancy Angelo of Chelmsford, Godmother of Gary Lombardo of Chelmsford and aunt to Charlene Smith and Kristin Maccanico.
