D. Robert “Bob” Ferguson, of Burlington, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Friday, August 29, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Cambridge, Bob was the devoted son of the late John and Paris (Dervishian) Ferguson. Though he made Burlington his longtime home, Cambridge always remained close to his heart. He would often speak fondly of his early years and never missed the chance to joke that one day he just might move back. His roots in the city gave him a strong sense of identity, one he carried proudly throughout his life.
Bob’s life was forever enriched when he met Virginia “Ginny” (Baldi) Ferguson while they were both working at Arthur D. Little Inc. Ginny was a consultant, and Bob, a talented and hardworking master plumber. Their chance meeting blossomed quickly into love, and in a short time, the two were married. They went on to build a life together filled with devotion, adventure, and laughter.
Travel was one of Bob and Ginny’s greatest shared joys. They particularly loved cruising, often setting out with groups of friends and family to explore new places and create cherished memories. Over the years, they enjoyed voyages to Alaska, Hawaii, the Panama Canal, Bermuda, Canada, the Mediterranean, and the Bahamas. Each destination brought new sights, but what Bob treasured most was the time spent alongside Ginny and their companions.
At home, Bob was happiest when working with his hands and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid gardener who took pride in growing a variety of vegetables, always eager to share the fruits of his labor with family and neighbors. Golf was another of his pastimes, and while he enjoyed the game, it was the camaraderie and time outdoors that gave him the most satisfaction. On occasion, he also liked to indulge in the small thrill of a scratch ticket, testing his luck with a smile.
Bob had a deep and abiding love for animals, and throughout his life, he shared his home with many beloved cats. His affection for animals extended beyond the ordinary, at one time he even had a pet raccoon named “Buffy,” who became a part of his life and a favorite story to share. His warmth and gentleness extended to every creature he encountered, reflecting his kind and compassionate nature.
Above all, Bob will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a loyal friend, and a man with a generous heart. His humor, warmth, and steadfast presence left a lasting impact on all who were fortunate to know him.
Bob was predeceased by 11 of his siblings.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ginny, his son, Gary Ferguson and his wife Lisa of Bedford, NH, grandson Shea Ferguson, special niece Dorothy Veith and her husband Richard of Andover as well as many more nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service on Saturday September 20th at 12 noon at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St. Burlington. An hour of visitation will precede the funeral service from 11Am to 12 Noon. Burial will follow in Pine Haven Cemetery in Burlington.
