Paul Mark Doherty, loving father, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the age of 72.
Paul was born in Cambridge, the oldest of the six children of Philip and Barbara Doherty. He grew up in Burlington, graduated from Burlington High School in 71, and went on to attend Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he studied architecture.
Paul had a special gift for connecting with people. He could strike up a conversation with almost anyone, find common ground, and remember details years later. He used that gift throughout his life and career.
Following the family tradition, Paul entered the food business, running his own company, Christina’s Catering. His brother Brian and mother Barbara were running Phil’s Fine Foods at the time, and both operated canteen trucks. When it was time to make a change and devote more time to his family, Paul shifted careers and became a real estate agent, where his communication skills once again served him well. He began working with his brother-in-law Peter Carter at Carter Reed Real Estate, later joining Rick Costa at New Boston Management.
Paul embraced life and loved time with family and friends. He had a passion for riding his “Fat Boy” Harley Davidson. He enjoyed riding with friends and especially cherished trips with his son Phil, including their annual rides to Bike Week in Laconia. Paul also spent many years in bowling leagues, loved Boston sports, had a big passion for landscaping and planting in the garden, and never grew tired of the music of The Doors. You could often find him running around the Burlington high school track.
Family was at the heart of Paul’s life. He loved his children deeply and treasured their time together. Paul loved his annual trips with his Children to Walt Disney world, and up to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. He was proud to see his children grow into strong, independent adults and was eagerly looking forward to becoming a grandfather to Damon.
Tragically, Paul’s life was cut short after an automobile accident in December. He spent weeks in a coma and after a long fight he never recovered from his injuries.
Paul will be remembered for his big personality and even bigger heart. Though his time was shorter than it should have been, Paul made the most of every moment and touched countless lives. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will always bring smiles—and maybe even a chuckle—to all who knew and loved him.
Paul was the loving father of Christina Doherty of Billerica and Philip Doherty & his fiancée Ashley Chartier of Lowell. He was the grandfather of Damon Doherty, and his fur grand dogs Benny & Teddy. He was the ex husband of Toni Doherty of Billerica. He was the brother of Karen Carter of Chelmsford, Joyce Surette & her husband Bob of Burlington, Brian Doherty & his wife Erin of N. Andover, Nancy Carragher of New Market, NH, and Jill Papsedoro of Littleton.
Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington on Monday, September 8 from 4-7pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Paul’s name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
