Robert "Bob" J. Moran Obituary

Robert “Bob” J. Moran, age 58, of Burlington, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Patricia “Patti” (Butler) Moran, with whom he shared 36 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in Stoneham, MA, on July 5, 1967, Bob was one of four children of the late Robert J. and Ellen V. (Dougherty) Moran. He graduated from Shawsheen Technical High School and after graduation, dedicated himself to providing for his family. Bob built a successful painting business while also working full-time as a Facilities Manager. He owned Brothers Painting & Contracting and was employed by Boston Land Company for nearly 40 years. Bob approached everything he did with dedication and hard work, often working overnight for his painting business so he could be a present and loving husband, father, and friend.

More than his work, Bob’s greatest source of pride and happiness was his family. Despite his busy schedule, he never missed a moment with his children—cheering them on at games, coaching their little league teams, or learning to ski so he could join them on the slopes. Summers and winters were spent together in Tamworth, NH, camping and later gathering at the family home. Even the harsh New England winters brought more family adventures on the snowmobile trails. Bob was always willing to help others, whether it was a fellow snowmobiler in need or a neighbor who could use a hand. His compassion for others knew no bounds.

In his free time, Bob kept close tabs on all the Boston teams. A lifelong fan, he loved cheering on the Celtics, Bruins, and Red Sox, but the Patriots held a special place in his heart. For more than ten years, Bob and his friends took their fandom on the road—literally—piling into an RV and making unforgettable trips to Patriots home games together.

Bob also had a passion for playing poker. The card table was his happy place, always filled with laughter, friendly banter, and the occasional dramatic bluff. He spent years playing in a league and even made several trips to Las Vegas to try his luck at the Bar Poker Open. Win or lose, Bob played for the fun of the game—and, most of all, for the company around the table.

When blessed with grandchildren, Bob poured the same boundless love into being a grandfather as he did into being a father. He and Patti treasured the time spent watching their grandchildren each week. Even as his health declined, he continued to create cherished moments with his granddaughter and grandson—watching movies and receiving tender care from his little “nurse.”

Bob will always be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his endless kindness and humor, and his remarkable ability to make everyone around him feel special. Known for his big personality, warm heart, and endless stories, Bob filled every room with laughter, jokes, and conversation. He made everyone he met feel seen, valued, appreciated, and loved. His memory will remain a lasting gift to all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Along with his beloved wife Patti, Bob is survived by his loving children: Robert “Bob” Moran and his wife Rachel of Burlington, Sean Moran and his wife Erin of South Boston, and Ryan Moran of Dunbarton, NH; his cherished grandchildren, Addison Grace and Robert Joseph; his dear siblings, Paul Moran and his wife Donna of Derry, NH, Kathleen Memmolo and her late husband Nicholas of Billerica, and Margaret “Peggy” Capaldo and her fiancé Michael Joseph of Gloucester; as well as many treasured nieces, nephews, relatives, and adoring friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Thursday, October 2nd from 3 pm until 7 pm at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington. At the request of his family, burial will take place at a later date.  As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s honor may be made to either Dana-Farber Cancer Institute or MSPCA at Nevins Farm.
