David J. Semidey Jr. Obituary

David J. Semidey Jr., of Woburn, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and vibrant soul, passed away peacefully at his home in Woburn on October 9, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 47.

Born in Boston, David was the beloved son of David Semidey Sr. and Aida Ramos. He was raised and educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from The English High School of Boston. From a young age, David’s warmth, humor, and magnetic personality were apparent to everyone he met.

In 1998, David’s life changed forever when he met Maria Esquilin, the love of his life, through a friend of a friend at a dance club. From the very beginning, David's heart led the way. Maria, a single mother at the time, was deeply moved by how effortlessly David bonded with her children, celebrating their milestones and sharing in their everyday joys. That unwavering presence revealed the kind of man he was: generous, devoted, and full of heart.

What started with late-night phone calls blossomed into a deep, enduring love. David and Maria married in 2005, building a beautiful life together rooted in laughter, music, family, and unconditional support. Sadly, they were unable to mark their 20th anniversary due to his illness, but their love story remains timeless.

David was, in many ways, a child at heart. He lit up every room with his jokes, his infectious laugh, and his playful spirit. He had a talent for making people laugh, often singing songs to Maria on repeat just to get a reaction, always finding joy in the small moments. He was known for transforming ordinary days into lasting memories through his humor, lightheartedness, and knack for making connections.

Family was the cornerstone of David’s life. When he wasn’t working, he was spending time with those he loved, attending Celtics games, watching boxing matches, playing dominoes, and supporting his children in everything they pursued. His presence was a gift, his advice a comfort, and his laughter a constant soundtrack in the lives of those around him.

David was a people person through and through, never too busy for a conversation, always ready to offer a listening ear or a quick joke. His love of music, especially Salsa, reflected his vibrant energy and deep appreciation for culture and rhythm.

He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Maria (Esquilin) Semidey of Woburn; his father, David Semidey Sr. of Maricao, Puerto Rico; his children: Mya Marie Semidey and Angel David Semidey of Woburn, Jenny Vanegas and her husband Juan of Brockton, Ramon Amill and his wife Juliana of Woburn, and Miguel Amill and his fiancée Kimberly Tompkins of Hudson, NH.

He also leaves behind his adoring grandchildren: Juan Xavier Vanegas, Izaias Noel Vanegas, Gabriel Miguel Amill, Ava Marie Amill, and Jacob Wesley Semidey; his sisters: Iris Judy Semidey, Lillian Reynoso, Hilda Raquel Ramos, and Denise Jimenez; and many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and dear friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visiting hours at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington, on Thursday, October 16, from 10 am to 11:30 am. A Funeral Mass of Catholic Burial will follow the visitation at 12 noon at St. Charles Borromeo Parish, 280 Main St., Woburn. Services will conclude with a burial taking place in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
