Todd Christopher Hurynowicz, a kind and loving son, brother, and uncle, passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 11, 2025. He was 54 years old.
A lifelong resident of Burlington, Todd was born in Winchester, the beloved son of William and Joanne (Hurley) Hurynowicz.
As a child, Todd played all sorts of sports, but hockey was his true passion. He played varsity hockey in high school and was a proud graduate of Burlington High School, Class of 1989. His love for sports continued throughout his life. Professionally, Todd worked for 20 years as a payroll specialist at Paychex.
Todd was deeply devoted to his family. While he might have seemed quiet and reserved to outsiders, those who knew him best saw his outgoing, funny, and animated side—especially when surrounded by family and friends. He shared a strong and loving bond with his parents and enjoyed many of the same hobbies as his father, including fishing. His favorite fishing spots were Martin’s Pond and the Concord River, where he often spent time on his small boat. Todd was a dedicated catch-and-release fisherman, always documenting his catches with a photo—often alongside a toy action figure to show the size.
Todd’s niece and nephews lived next door, and with the yards connected, he was constantly out playing with them—basketball, baseball, street hockey, or whatever game caught their interest. He even built them a treehouse in the backyard—no ordinary treehouse, but one complete with vinyl siding to match the house. Nearly 30 years later, it still stands strong as a testament to his craftsmanship and love.
A devoted fan of Star Wars, Batman, Marvel, and DC Comics, Todd could recite lines from movies and shows effortlessly. His “man cave” was filled with memorabilia and an impressive comic book collection. He shared that passion with his nieces and nephews, creating flashcards with comic book heroes to get them interested in reading, reading comics aloud to them, and later challenging them to trivia games. Todd loved taking them to comic conventions, turning each trip into an adventure by creating scavenger hunts to find comics on his wish list—like searching for treasure. He also encouraged them to build their own collections. You could always spot Todd’s truck and boat by the Batman logos proudly displayed on them.
Todd was also an avid reader who especially enjoyed books by Tom Clancy and James Patterson. He loved following the evolution of characters across book series.
Gifted with his hands and a natural talent for woodworking, Todd was always helping his nieces and nephews with school projects and crafts. He built them custom beds for their rooms and made beautifully painted cornhole boards for family and friends, each one personalized to reflect the recipient’s interests. He was well-known for his creative custom mailboxes—shaped like Snoopy, fire engines, airplanes, trains, dalmatians, and many more—gifts that brought joy to family, friends, and neighbors alike. He was also the go-to person when it came to assembling Christmas presents.
Todd was blessed to meet his girlfriend, Rachel, almost four years ago, and she brought immense happiness and love into his life. They shared many interests and expanded each other’s worlds. Both diehard Bruins fans, they had tickets for the game on the day of his passing. They loved playing trivia together, often attending Thursday night trivia events at the 99 Restaurants in Lowell or Billerica. Todd introduced Rachel to fishing, while she introduced him to travel. Their connection was genuine and filled with joy—she made Todd’s heart full.
Todd’s sudden passing is especially difficult to bear, coming only months after the unexpected loss of his beloved mother in July. There was truly only one Todd Hurynowicz. He was unique—he followed his own path to happiness, was steadfastly loyal, and was always there for his family and friends. He will be profoundly missed, but his family will forever hold close the countless memories and moments he gave them.
Todd was loving son of the late William and Joanne Hurynowicz. He was the boyfriend of Rachel Hummrich of Tewksbury. He was the brother of William R. Hurynowicz and Jean Hurynowicz both of Burlington. He was the proud uncle of Michael Hurynowicz & his wife Kayt of Nashua, NH, Zachary Hurynowicz & his wife Roberta of Nashua, NH, Drew Hurynowicz & his girlfriend Sabrina Tierney of Nashua, NH, and Katherine “Katie” Hurynowicz & her boyfriend Shawn Herbert of Worcester. He was the great uncle of Penelope, Cole, Anna Hurynowicz, and was looking forward to welcoming twins in the near future.
