Frederick W Murray Obituary

Frederick M. Murray, 96, of Burlington, a devoted minister of the good news and a cherished member of the Burlington community, passed away peacefully, October 26th, surrounded by love and faith.

Born in Medford, Frederick was the son of the late Sarah (McLeod) and Ivan Swimm. He was educated in the Medford school system and graduated from Medford High School. In the1950’s, Frederick was baptized into the Jehovah’s Witness faith, a moment that would define the course of his life.

He was employed for many years at the United States Postal Service and not only had his own mail route but was also a sorter.

Being a part of the Jehovah’s Witnesses was far more than a calling for Fred; it was his life’s work and deepest joy. He devoted himself wholeheartedly to sharing the good news and serving his community as a faithful minister. His kind and gentle nature, compassion for others, and unwavering love for mankind reflected his deep spiritual convictions. Those who knew him often said he truly embodied what it meant to be one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Fred’s warmth and kindness also captured the heart of Alice Gough. The two shared a beautiful life together, filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect, until Alice’s passing in 2010.

Beyond his ministry, Fred was a man of many talents and simple joys. He loved playing the guitar, especially folk music, and could often be found strumming a tune and sharing stories with friends. Known for his great sense of humor, Fred was a natural jokester who brought smiles to those around him. A gifted conversationalist, he had the rare ability to make anyone feel heard and valued. Fred also had a deep affection for animals, finding peace and joy in their companionship.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his three siblings, Gordon Swimm, Stanley Swimm and Ruth Eleanor Karasek.

He is survived by many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his graveside service at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 31 in Pine Haven Cemetery, 84 Bedford St. Burlington. Arrangements are by the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, Burlington. www.sullivanfuneralhome.net
